Home Baking
Do we have any members here who love home baking, I dont just mean eating it but doing the baking too
On radio 2 Chris Evans show this morning he had Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood on from The Great British Bake Off, Mary had bought a lemon drizzle cake in for Chris to try and that has given me an idea to make one for myself sometime this week, maybe.
Just wondered if anyone else was interested in this.

When I first got married used to go round and see me mam every sunday morning and she used to force me to eat a load of lamb from the joint as samples and then I had to go home and eat me dinner and still leave room for the pie and cake she'd sent me home with

Re: Home Baking
I do bread in a bread maker, Kenwood machine.
I have always loved doing my own baking since I can remember, Victoria sponge, Madeira cake, cookie and scones, any type of cake really. I would love to have a bigger kitchen for all baking stuff.

you bet, my back is very painful if I stand too long in the kitchen. I also have a Kenwood chef to cheat with too

Re: Home Baking
I do half the work of baking in my family and I love it! My wife bakes it and I eat it. Simple! Oh, to get to your question, I would be interested in a bite of that lemon drizzle cake you bake.

Re: Home Baking
For my Lemon Drizzle Cake I would use the following recipe:
240g Unsalted softened butter
200g Caster sugar,plus extra 2 tbs.
Finely grated zest & juice of 1 lemon
3 large eggs
210g Self Raising flour
90g Plain flour
Buttered & Lined loaf tin
For Lemon glace topping-juice and zest of one lemon & 150g icing sugar.
Preheat oven to 17oC gas mark 3
Cream butter and sugar and add lemon zest. Add eggs one at a time with a little of the flour for each. Mix in the rest of the flour and the lemon juice. Pour and scrape into the prepared tin and sprinkle the top with an extra tablespoon or two of caster sugar. Bake for an hour - hour an half until cooked through. Place on a wire rack and remove from the tin once cooled.
For the lemon drizzle topping mix juice and zest of 1 lemon with 150g icing sugar and gently warm in a pan or in the microwave add to the top of the cake while it is still warm.
The cake is a great Madeira cake on it's own without the topping.

I love baking...there's a scrap of a vicky sponge I made the other day..but with blueberry jam instead of raspberry. Bloody lovely, didn't see much of it though with the tribe getting their faces into it
