Sharing crate or separate? Empty Sharing crate or separate?

Post by caz64 Tue Oct 16 2012, 09:57

Hi guys
Quite a while back Dusty started to go into the crate where Ellie sleeps at night. sleep This was not a problem as they slept well together overnight. Obviously Dusty has grown and there is now a need for more space as although the crate is big enough for Ellie it is no longer big enough for them both. Do you think I should separate them in individual crates or should I get a huge one that they can share. When I have prevented them from both being in the crate together Dusty cries constantly to be with Ellie. day dreaming

I would always go seperate. Sometimes they need to just get away from each other.

When I've had 2 dogs together in the past they've always had seperate beds.

mmmm hard one really when there fully grown you could be asking for problems as yes 99.9% of the time they may sleep together without any problems but just that one chance in 1000 of them kicking off and there in together one could easy end up dead Surprised not nice to think but could happen .
what i would do is get a huge cage with a divider so still sharing but not sharing the same space

We don't use crates with our 2 now and they sleep on a bed , any bed , ususally ours Sad but they do have their grumbles from time to time , though Tommy will always want to sleep wherever Tilly is. If they have a falling out they can move out of each others way , if they are together in one crate then its different . That is of course assuming the door is locked on the crate whilst they are sleeping

Personally I would have separate crates or a divider like Wazza said. My two get on great most of the time but I've seen the last few weeks just how quickly a disagreement can get out of hand.

I agree with separate if you keep the crate door closed. You wouldn't want one to annoy the other, and one to try to get away and be unable to.
