Where do you walk your dogs?
Just interested to know, do you take them to the same places daily or all over the place?
Bis is fine with other dogs after initial introductions but is very fearful of off lead dogs running directly at her and is reactive on lead (at her safe distance she's fine and easily distracted but if they get any closer she loses her mind!! - we're gradually decreasing the distance) so I have to be quite particular about where I walk her. We've got a few regular places that are generally really quiet dog wise but i'm desperately trying to find longer walks for her so I can take her for 4-5 hour hikes, that aren't over populated with out of control dogs with no re-call that are going to set back her training!!
At the moment we generally stick to the big industrial estates and pavement walks on the days that i'm walking and then a quiet woods and massive cemetery nearby that take about 2 hours to get around when I've got afternoons or days off..

Re: Where do you walk your dogs?
we are lucky where we live as there are lots of different walks, so we like to mix it up, one walk will be up round the lakes then down along the river another time we'll walk a similar route then cross the river to a castle where marley can have a rest and a drink but if it's wet and miserable we stick to the roads

Re: Where do you walk your dogs?
We mainly go to our local park which is great for meeting other dogs and Rocky is friends with most of them. He likes meeting people more than dogs though so isn't that bothered if we dont see any of them.

I'm very lucky I live 10mins from the middle of know where! Its called the Surrey Hills (not being posh lmao), we also have the river where she swims and lots of lovely country pubs. I steer clear from parks if I can help it as I prefer not to meet people! Not that I'm anti social at all

Re: Where do you walk your dogs?
Hi there, we are very fortunate in having two large parks and a cemetery within a couple of minutes walk from home, one of the parks seems to have been taken over by a most unsociable crowd when it comes to Staffies running around, and they dont wish their stroodles or whatever socialising with the likes of our Solly, never mind he has a great time and so do we, then once or twice a week we go off to Essex coast and walk the sea wall on the River Blackwater. so all in all dog and owners have a good work out.

We do a few different walks, we do the school run and then the park, the common or the fields in the morning, and then a walk to a few different fields and bits of woodland in the evening. We have only been in the area a few months so are still exploring, all good fun!

Re: Where do you walk your dogs?
Another lucky one, 200 yards up the road and you are in open countryside for miles.
Teddy & I have our regular walk up the lane to the phone mast and back, about 2 miles or the longer version go past the mast & past the vets house then turn left down what can be a very muddy track, come out near one of the farms then head back to the original lane, about 4 miles in a circle.
Teddy knows almost everyone he meets on this walk, local farmers, other dog walkers, staff at the garden centre, The Cows, The Sheep and any other wildlife we come across.
Alternative is the beach at Goodwick which is 5 min in the car.
If we are over at work then we have a huge field we are allowed to use which is safe off lead.

Re: Where do you walk your dogs?
I walk Loki to a field close to my house. It's a short-ish distance, so it's good for me for when my health is bad, and also he can run around while I rest a bit, then we can walk around the path a few times and etc. Also around some random streets and by the main road to get him used to being around people, dogs, cars, buses, etc. without being so distracted. Now and again I take him to the park too, I have two parks near me so that's always good.
Still need to take him to the beach

We're lucky where we live and have a couple of good long walks from where we live and short ones , 10 mins in the car for something different , and if we need safety when my daughter is walking them then it's the paths around our streets

Re: Where do you walk your dogs?
Max gets a lead walk of around 3miles a day, then I have sole access to a 27acre site for his "workout" or very physical excercise on the evenings .... thats the working week, at the w/ends, we like to take him differant places for a change in the car for socialising and a bit of variety

Re: Where do you walk your dogs?
I have two parks within a 5 minutes walk (one with an area of untouched common land), and huge park about 15 minutes walk away & several river walks a short drive away, so we mix it up!

Re: Where do you walk your dogs?
Oooh yours are a lucky lot aren't they!! Took Bis for a 10 mile walk this afternoon and then a run across the golf course! All was going well dog wise until a GSD came charging out of a gate way and scared the bejesus out of her then the adrenaline was up for the rest of the walk!!
Andy how did you manage to get access to that?!? Been trying to find land to let for months but it's a nightmare..

Re: Where do you walk your dogs?
Mine enjoy the school run each day plus a walk to the local recreation grounds to run batshit crazy. Or we walk down to the marshs abd back.
I'm lucky living in the sticks surrounded by fields and local marshland.
