Hello - new member
Hi, we as yet do not have a dog but are going to see one tomorrow who needs a new home and looks like a big chap. He is 5 yrs old and white, and looks huge. TBH I havnt had anything much to do with Staffys, as previously I was scared of them. I allowed the hype surrounding them to cloud my judgement without actually doing any research. I have since done my research and found out that they are one of the few breeds recommended with children in a family. As we have 4 children, that is an essential. It is really sad how they are midjudged through irresponsible owners and being kept as status dogs. The ones I have met since, have been loving and just want to be loved. So, the boy I am going to see tomorrow hopefully will be coming home with us all being well. He is big, but a softie. Walked regularly by a 12 yr old boy, and clambered over and pulled about by 2 toddlers. He has had good training and so has nice manners, and is good with other dogs. Doesnt like cats but thats ok as neither does hubby lol. We have 4 children aged 2, 8, 9 & 12 so being good with children is our priority. We have been looking for a long time, and 5 yrs old is a bit older than we wanted preferably but only middle aged, not old by any means. I am off to look at staffy photos now and read about all your lovely dogs. xx

Hi witcheswalk,
I'm so glad you have decided to 'come over to the other side'. Yes, staffies are great with children, they love them so much that it is enlightening. You will find that they are amazing dogs who are stuffed full of love and loyalty. There can be issues with other dogs, but you have come to the best place in the world to learn how to look after your staffy in the same way as he or she looks after you and yours.

Hiya and welcome to the forum. You wont regret getting your staffy. I have 3 children, and was wary at first cos of all the rubbish in the media, but I too did my research. My pup is only 15 weeks old but already has perfect recall, and can do a variety of tricks as well as sit, lay down, wait and stay. They are smart and learn fast. They have really funny characters and a fantastic temperament. My boy is soooo patient with my kids, even tho he's just a pup. My 3 year old son is always grappling with him and getting him in headlocks and stuff and my boy just licks him. You really have made a great choice. Just make sure you are firm and consistent with him and he knows that you're the boss. Hope all goes well today, cant wait to see some pics. Good luck, and come back with any questions you may have, we're here to help.

Re: Hello - new member
Thank you everyone, going later this afternoon but am really nervous about getting a dog at all atm. I have an enxiety disorder which means I struggle with anything at the moment to do with commitment. I have had dogs before with no problems so dont know why I am anxious about this. Fingers crossed for later. xxx
