Hello staffy lovers :)

Hello all

My name is Sam and I am a proud mum to 3 year old staff Betsy. I found Betsy at a rescue in March and I'm sure as all of you will understand it's been a wonderful journey so far Betsy is my first dog and I can say that staffs have won my heart. I must admit I was a little nervous getting a dog anyway, but also having heard some negative press. It has been a massive learning curve and I'm sure will continue to be. Betsy is quite a typical staff in that she's confident and easily over excited, a liken her to an overactive child. A few months in I invested in a session with a behavourist. It really helped me to begin to understand Betsy and how to engage with her during walks- perfect when some dogs don't appreciate her charging over to them. We have a way to go with the training- well a lifetime in fact, but there is always a giggle around the corner.
Thanks to all of you for making this site such an excellent resource and source of support. I do unfortunately find that I'm on the receiving end of others staffy prejudice so this is a welcome haven My current gggrrrrww is owners that think it's perfectly ok to carry their dogs and then turn on us when Betsy responds by jumping up and trying to reach them!
I'll look forward to sharing our staffy loves

Time for bed- early walks tomorrow although I have to actually wake Betsy up- she loves her bed, more so since we've started a running regime

Welcome Betsy is adorable. I never quite understand how people who were previously nervous about Staffs end up getting one. That doesn't make sense to me, but if it ends up changing their minds and they get to share that love with their dog and give their dog a happy home, it's a brilliant thing

hi and welcome from me and licks from troy congrats on the rescue Betsy look lovely Think people who have never been round a staffy dont understand them and the media dont help I think alot of people go to the rescues and see them and after being there a while see a diff side they have never see in the media ect and then thats it heart stolen

Sounds like Betsy has a great new owner to keep her training up which is important. Rocky was also from a rescue center and has turned out to be the best friend anyone could have.
