some people....
I was out walking sonic when a guy started heading over so i reeled her lead in so she was right with me, anyway the guys dog came over and they had a sniff and then the dog wandered off the guy got to me and went to stroke her and she jumped up so i said please ignore her till she sits nicely she is being trained and he was like oh its ok i dont mind her jumping so i said i really didn't want her to as it would confuse her and he told me not to be silly! I said i am sorry but i am not allowing her to jump and if you can't respect that i would rather you didn't stroke her, i turned away to walk off and he told me i was irresponsible and she would end up aggressive as i won't let her socialise
my question is was i too harsh or should i insist on people reinforcing what she is learning at puppy training class? Thanks in advance

Re: some people....
What you said was not unreasonable and I would have said the same unfortunately it's people like him that make it hard for dogs to learn and my Skye at 2yrs still jumps up every now and again

Re: some people....
You were 100% right. You know your dog he doesnt. You set the rules around your dog and how you train it. Arrogant fool tbh one of the first things of training a good dog is consistancy we ask our loved ones to abide by our rules so what diff about strangers? Truth is he prob thinks he knows best but in reality hes a problem, and a big one at that. Stick to your guns mate as no one knows your dog like you and trust your gut instincts, take advice when you ask for it and not from someone whos watched two episodes of the dog whisperer.

Re: some people....
You're not being harsh at all, you're explaining your training methods. People always think it's for their benefit, so if your cute, small puppy/dog jumps up, it's OK because they're cute. If it was an adult Great Dane I doubt they'd feel the same way, but training as a puppy is how it gets handled. So don't be afraid to tell people this

Re: some people....
You were definately right. Consistancy is the key to training or the pup will get confused.

Re: some people....
You were 100% right in what you did , I am not normally so strict as I am more pleased that someone wants to make a fuss of our devil dogs . So its between the devil and the deep blue sea as they say. If you feel you want to stick to your guns and they know how to handle dogs they shouldn't have a problem with it, and his comment was ridiculous
