Re: Lipstick..,
No, it's not unusual. Dempsey used to do it quite a lot, but it's only occasionally now!

Re: Lipstick..,
Poor Dempsey normally takes about 5 - 10 minutes for it to shrink & go back!

It's not really the balls, it's the swelling that appears on either side of his lipstick when he gets excited!

Re: Lipstick..,
I had a friend send me a worried message last year that her boy had two sets of balls it took a while before I realized what she was talking about, the bit at the base is what they use to lock on to a female, they have to wait for that to shrink enough to seperate which can take up to 30 mins . no quickies in the dog world lol.

Lol at this thread.
I walked an old English mastiff earlier in the week - an 80-90kg dog - and he had the full sausage and potatoes going on.
I was scared.

Re: Lipstick..,
This worried me too when I first saw it - I thought my pup had a double hernia and nearly took him to the vet! It is something that no-one EVER talks about, but fortunately one brave soul explained it (good old internet, but it took some finding).Caryll wrote:axam102 wrote:I had a friend send me a worried message last year that her boy had two sets of balls it took a while before I realized what she was talking about, the bit at the base is what they use to lock on to a female, they have to wait for that to shrink enough to seperate which can take up to 30 mins . no quickies in the dog world lol.

Can't remember now ! Seriously though, it scared the bejasus out of me and I think I just googled frantically around Puppy + lumps etc until I found it. Thank goodness I did - it saved me a vet bill plus huge embarassment What amazes me though is that it is all such a secret - not one of my many puppy books mentioned it.

I can understand the worry as that bit usually shows before the testicles appear, and then when they do appear it leaves you with what loooks like two unexplained lumps. Im sure choosing keywords for a internet search has to be done very carefully.
Your right about lack of info on the internet, everything seems to be coverd in detail apart from that unless you search for breeding dogs. which, lets face it when you find two unexplained lumps is the last thing your going to search for. although a search for "my dog has four balls" suggests this catches alot of people out.
