Re: first night nerves??
Welcome to the world of the pin cushion hands/legs/feet!
Let the pup settle tonight, but from tomorrow every time he nips you, say "No" in a firm but calm voice & stop all play immediately. Turn away from him & ignore him until he's calm - don't even look at him! It shouldn't take too long for the nipping to start to get less, and then stop.
I've always left a pup where he's going to sleep (dog bed, crate etc) and then gone to bed & ignored the crying. However, I've always then got up at about 3 - 4am to let him out for a pee/poo. Then it's back to bed & leave him to cry. He'll probably cry for the first 2 - 4 nights, but he'll stop soon enough. You could try leaving a night light on, and maybe a radio playing softly.
Any pics!

Agree with Caryll. If he is in a crate you can place a blanket over it which might help him settle. To get him drinking you can try some shaved ice.

Re: first night nerves??
Great idea to leave a radio on something quiet for him, try a talky station like radio 4 or find some quiet classical music. Rocky has his own classical playlist on the ipod which goes on every night for him.

Re: first night nerves??
very well, no crying , well none that we heard took him out at 6.30am and he did his business, he is a lot more confident today, he got "beat up" a few times by my son's 6 month old staffy bitch for going after her teats!!
the biting as subsided too, a sharp NO!! and the finger stops him (he does bark at me when i do it)
his character is starting to show now.
thanks for asking caryll

Re: first night nerves??
Your vet will probably give you some worming advice when you take him for his jabs, but generally speaking it's once a month up to 6 months old and then every 3 months afterwards. Make sure you get the wormers that cover lungworm. Your vet will advise you which ones they do, and you might be able to get them cheaper online.
The vet might also advise using a regular flea/tick treatment - that's up to you. I don't use any flea/tick treatment unless there's actually fleas etc present; I don't like using unnecessary chemicals. I do worm every 3 months, though.

I agree with this 100%. Drontal treats all worms except lungworm.. although I've heard various things about what does treat lungworm.. Pancur and Advocate apparently but I won't state it as fact as I'm not sure.
I work in Pets at Home and I am trained in nutrition, fleas and worms and puppy training, but unfortunately, our training isn't that advanced
I had a lady visit the other day, she put Frontline on her cat and it went crazy, wouldn't settle, twitching.
I personally believe it's a result of chemicals being put on the base of the neck, being the spine and the one way highway to the brain, it's basically poisoning the brain directly.
I will advise only treating them for fleas when it's really really necessary, no other times (of course I'm not allowed to view this opinion at work).
But obviously it's a personal opinion

Re: first night nerves??
As far as I'm aware, Drontal doesn't cover lungworm ( Angiostrongylus vasorum).
Milbemax does as a stand alone wormer and Advocate does as a combines flea/tick/wormer.
Advocate is also used as a treatment for dogs that actually contract lungworm.

Oops I meant to put "Drontal treats all worms except lungworm" then I continued saying I'm not sure what does
Advocate does treat roundworm - we're told it doesn't cover tapeworm which can be transmitted from fleas - so even if he gets rid of the fleas, he might still have tapeworm.
Do you know anything different Caryll?
