Does your dog bury bones? Empty Does your dog bury bones?

I've always kept staffies and none have ever buried their bones - they used to leave them wherever they fell when they got bored with them.

Today, I gave a foster dog (hound-type, definitely not a staffie) a Stagbar, and she immediately went out into the backyard with it.

She dug through the gravel (as there's no grass), through the gravel membrane, and down a fair way into the soil below, then spent a good five minutes piling gravel back on top with her nose.

There's now a huge gravel mountain sat on top of this hidden "bone". Blushing

So, that got me wondering if bone and treat burying is more prevalent in certain breeds.

Does anyone's staffy dig and bury their bones?

Suki is famous for it. Sadly we don't really have a yard so she has to find places in the house like the couch cushions or under the throw rugs.

Marley has never tried to bury his bones, but if we are away and other dogs are staying near by or another dog is in the flat, he''l try to bury his dinner under a pile of his bedding

None of my bitches ever buried anything, only the dogs. The GSD & the GSD x Collie would occasionally bury things, Bandit (staff) would try to bury anything & everything anywhere he could! Dempsey also tries to bury anything he doesn't want now. Trouble is, he tries to bury bowls, bones, toys - anything - wherever he happens to be. So he actually tries to bury things in the carpet sometimes!

I'm watching out of the kitchen window and she keeps going back to this mountain, sniffing it, then weeing nearby.

I suppose it's nothing odd but as I've never seen a dog do this before, it's fascinating.

I should be doing work from home today but instead I'm watching nature in action. Laughing

Rocky has been know to bury his biscuits in the gravel we have outside, and then pile the gravel up again just as your foster dog does. He also sometimes buries chew sticks out there too but not that often.

He covers the things up so gently with his nose then has a little paw about at it to make sure they are safely buried. It realls cracks us up. Laughing

Daisy 'hides' her bones. There was one occasion when she couldnt get to her usual hiding place in the lounge so took her bone outside and tried to bury it in the garden waste recycling bag! I think I have a lazy digger...

She does scratch around in the grass and mud if she smells something interesting - usually what the squirrels have tried to store around the garden!

My staffords never bury food or bones, as you said they just kind of abandon them when they get bored. Tali (3year old) does like to dig, and will sometimes make holes for her toys and stones in the garden but she never covers them back over. Our JRT X however will hide things in/under sofas, cusions etc anywhere really to stop the other dogs getting them.

Tyson buries his. He had a sandpit and was constantly burying stuff. Now his bones end up in the dirt and he does dig them up then try and bring them back indoors. Needless to say he gets stopped at the door. I do tend to take them away befor he buries them and we 'bury' them in a bag in the freezer Big Grin
