Re: Best food to feed staffie pup
Oh shes lovely! But Baker is a bit of a rubbish food, full of colourings and additives. Iams is slightly better but I dont like some of their animal testing policies and dont support them. A few good foods are; Wainwrights (Pets at home brand), james wellbeloved, fish4dogs and natures menu (wet food). There is a list somewhere with best dried foods.

Re: Best food to feed staffie pup
Depends what you want to feed, for me the best food is a raw diet.

Here's the list
http://staffy-bull-terrier.co.uk/dryfood.html
Tommy and Tilly were both on Wainwrights (puppy and adult as appropriate) and that was fine but Tilly got bored so we are in the changeover process to Fish4dogs.
Definitely ditch the bakers though

Any change of food needs to be done gradually, so whatever you choose do it over a week at least

Rocky has recently been changed over from James Welbeloved to Barking Heads and he seems to have appreciated the change, he is calmer now.

Whatever you choose, make sure it isn't Bakers! It's the pits!
I take it you want to feed a complete dry food? If so, then the ones that have been mentioned above are all good.

The best dry completes are the grain free ones with a high meat content like Orijen, Applaws, Fish4Dogs, Taste of the Wild etc.
Then there are loads of mid range foods with a fairly decent meat content and not mostly grain (or a 'better' grain - oats and rice are better than maize/corn or wheat for example) like Arden Grange, Symply, James Wellbeloved, Lathams, Simpsons Premium, Natural Dog Food Company, Wainwrights.
Just avoid all like supermarket own foods, Bakers, Winalot, Webbox, Wagg, Pedigree, Iams, Hills, Purina, Royal Canin, Harringtons, Omega, Eukanuba, Chappie, Chudleys, Alpha. Basically foods where the ingredients aren't clear or have grain as the first ingredient, low meat content, additives, sugar, salt etc.

Taste of the wild is a great food for pups. Not too high protein, good fat. Origen is a fabulous food. I definitely agree, the food your using is not ideal. Do some research, pricing and availability. GRAIN FREE!!!

Re: Best food to feed staffie pup
Galadriel you may class Simpson as a middle of the road food, but i beg to differ and have witnessed EXCELLENT results with their Salmon grain free diet used on a Stafford with chronic ear infection ... like i said before dont knock something till you try it and see results. We can all read ingredients available online of different diets for dogs, but proof is in the puddling so to speak.
Out of fish4dogs and Simpsons i would select Simpsons, now thats not from read ingredients thats from watching and seeing the condition of my 5 dogs when they were on these diets.
My male had a dreadful coat on fish4dogs, but gleamed on Simpsons.
I have learnt over the years expensive does not always mean the best.
You feed your dog on what your purse can afford and what suits your dog.
But I do agree Bakers is the pits as are most supermarket supplied foods.

I think we've had this discussion before
I'm not knocking Simpsons, it's not a bad food, especially the grain free one, in fact, that one is probably at the top of the mid range group and like all foods, what suits one dog might not suit another but it just doesn't have enough animal protein IMO to go into the premium group.

Re: Best food to feed staffie pup
Well i still beg to differ.
I just wonder how the hell the dogs and puppies raised and looked after all them years ago by the old timers managed to look and grow into fine example with out a certain % of protein
In my parents time they themselves and breeders they knew reared pups on Chappie, plus maybe eggs ... some of these pups are Champs in some of todays dogs pedigrees .. amazing ay

Re: Best food to feed staffie pup
I use Pero puppy and junior for Lola Snow and Pero SBT for Lily Mae, it is specially formulated for Staffords. Bakers is bad, it killed my friend's King Charles' Spaniel not outright but over the years. Chappie is supposed to be a ok for a cheaper food. I also give them either mackerel or sardines twice a week to help their coats and brains!!
