Training! Empty Training!

Post by cesca1 Tue Sep 04 2012, 23:29

Very excited...Molly and I have our first training class on sunday! Smile

Any hints and tips for stopping her running up to people on walks (very lovingly...) and jumping up?

We're trying to stop her jumping up at home and with people generally by saying off firmly and ignoring her by turning away. Will she learn that eventually this applies to strangers on walks as well?!

Thank you!

As long as everyone, including strangers (easier said than done) do exactly the same as you then yes, Moo still attempts the jump up at home but a loud 'ah' when I see it and she knows not too, out and about she doesn't anymore.
Good luck with Sunday Big Grin

On walks she sees people without dogs as targets so maybe I shall have to put her on the lead until shes just a tincy bit better! Shes absolutely lovely when she does say hello in her own special way Wink

When dogs are with the people shes distracted!

People in work and without dogs don't get how excited I am at starting dog school!

I would say until she has good recall then keep her on lead, flexi is always good or a training line when you are in open spaces Smile

It honestly is just about consistent training, you'll get bored of your own voice when there that age Laughing

Her recall is brilliant its just when we are within easy reach of people! We've had her off the lead and used various treats as rewards since we started walking her.

I think shes learnt a fair amount from our other dog Watson, he has very good recall.

I shall lead her when we get close to people for a while though Smile and maybe invest in a flexi lead.

I know the frustration with jumping up, I can tell when Moo is going to get excited (jump), her head goes down, bum up and tail waggles, as soon as I spot it I just say 'ah' and she responds, I still find myself doing it, especially when strangers encourage or say 'I don't mind'.

I do lol, you'll get there Smile

You could try a long lead and than just shorten it near people.
