Can Dogs Catch Colds from People?

I've recently recovered from a cold, and I've noticed Loki has started coughing the past few days. I first noticed it when he was eating, so figured he was eating too quickly, but he was doing it this morning when I woke him up before I fed him. He isnt doing it all the time, but a bit. He has no other symptoms (eating fine, still wanting to play, etc.), so I was hoping he's caught my cold or something, but is that even possible? I'm terrified that he's eaten a slug and got lungworm or something but surely he'd have other symptoms?

I think the short answer is no, most viruses are species specific, if you are at all concerned give your vet a quick phone call.

No, they can't catch the common cold. It's possible that he has picked up some sort of virus, though, but as long as he's eating/drinking well & he's lively & happy I wouldn't worry!

I think if he's not better by Thursday I'll take him to the vet, or does this sound like waiting too long? He hasn't done it the rest of the day, so I'm not sure what it is, but I'll be keeping an eye on him, see if he gets worse. Thanks, everyone
