Cow poo, horse poo....! Empty Cow poo, horse poo....!

So Molly has developed a taste for cow/horse poo. My partner has a rather dodgey stomach when it comes to poo so obviously he is very against this treating habbit Wink

What I want to know is whether eating it is bad for dogs in general?

It can contain a lot of worms, so i would say yes it can be bad for them. Some people don't worm their animals at all.

As long as you worm your dog regularly it won't harm them too much, but it isn't really socially acceptable! Big Grin

Try teaching a really strong "leave" command & cross your fingers! Laughing

Righto. Its just rather hard to find areas to walk where she can go off the lead where there's no cow poop! We say no very sternly when we see her munching

Worms can be a problem (and everyone should worm their dogs regardless of their 'other' habits) though a lot of worms are host specific, meaning they won't be transmitted from cows/horses to dogs. Obviously there are some worms that can occur/infect both species.

Bacteria can also be a problem. But generally if its a problem, the cow/horse will have diarrhoea and your dog won't be eating it sick

But for the most part, its not a problem. Hiccup went through a stage of eating the same. He's on a regular 3month dewormer (plus a separate monthly booster for a specific worm we have were I am) and is generally healthy so I believe his gut could handle the bacteria so I was never really concerned about. He grew out of it so I didn't really have to worry but you can certainly discourage it, at least for your partners sake Tongues

Ralph would do this all the time if we'd let him. We do 'no' and 'leave it', but distraction works best.

Ralph likes to play 'I'm gonna get you' and he chases us, so we just start playing this when he's about to chomp a pooey snack and he drops it to play. Laughing

Ugh! I hate Charlie constantly rolling in poo but it's better than him eating it! I would do what Caryll had advised, teach a good 'Leave' command and stick with it - no staffy kisses in the meantime sick
