Prospective Staffie slave
First of all can I say, I have been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now and have found it very helpful.
My wife and I have recently retired and have decided to have a staffie. I have already been in touch with and had advice from a couple of local breeders and will be attending a local Staffie show this weekend and viewing a litter in the next week or so. I have kept dogs in the past ( two shepherds and a doberman ) but this will be our first staffie and I must say I have found this forum invaluable with regard to tips on buying, feeding, training etc.
Will keep you posted on our progress.
Many thanks.

Hi Reuben,
Welcome to the forum - and good choice of breed.
Would you consider a pup from a rescue shelter - lots in there needing a forever home.

Re: Prospective Staffie slave
Forgot to mention.....when I had my last shepherd I helped with the novices at our local training classes but there seems to be some subtle differences with staffies???

Re: Prospective Staffie slave
Hi Working dog.
Yes we did consider a rescue but were worried about inheriting a powerful dog with no way of checking background, temperament, health issues etc. and as I want my wife to be involved in the training, decided to go for a puppy.
Also we are both animal lovers and don't know if we could take one dog and leave all the others!!

Re: Prospective Staffie slave
Hello, enjoy.
I grew up around shepherds and I think they are more quick to listen and obey--sometimes Callie hears and understands, but looks at me and does her own thing. And shepherds are loving and loyal but more reserved. Staffies always seem to want to lick you, sit exactly on top of you, etc. It sounds like you have lots of good experience though!
And we were in the same place about a rescue. I was considering it (though they're harder to find in the US) but my husband was nervous, we have friends with a rescue mix who's pretty skittish.
