breeders giving out wrong advise?
just had my sister on the phone, two days ago her husband went up to Surrey to pick her a 8 week old Cocker Spaniel pup(sorry i know its not a staffie)but im really cross at what she has been told .the pup came from a kc reg breeder who has been breeding for years.yesterday the pup had a runny bum so my sister phoned the breeder for advise, she mentioned to him about the pup crying at night, the breeder told her to come down stairs with a rolled up newspaper and smack it on the bum with it .im totally apalled by this advise, surely its not some thing a breeder should advise doing??

Omg that's shocking advise!!!
Laughable really but imagine how many people she's told that to, and all the pups who've had a newspaper bashing!!

Re: breeders giving out wrong advise?
I don't know if that would do any good really. I don't think breeders are required to have a license and very few people do any type of research before chosing a breeder. If there is an organization that you could report him to that would make an impact than I'd be all for it.

Its frightening the amount of people who think slapping a dog works to train it.

Re: breeders giving out wrong advise?
just got back from visiting them, poppy is adorable and i hate to say it but i think they been ripped off,i may be wrong and i really hope so.they showed me the papers they got and there is no mention of kc,she has a certificate that has the names of the sires and dames/grand parents ect, they were made to sign a contract to say they would have her chipped, would not breed from her, would get her spayed and would not show her!they were not shown the mother of the pups, and the pups were kept in a stable with a small window.they are so glad to have her i did'nt say what i thought, she still has a runny bum so are going to take her to the vets tomorrow for a check over, poor little girl

If the pup was kc reged they should have kennel club papers?? Perhaps they have sent them off already to get the pup re regostered in their name?

Re: breeders giving out wrong advise?
I don't think the contract (to chip, not to breed, whether or not to show and to spay if not showing) is all that unusual. And at least here in the US, we didn't get AKC papers for a few months--our breeder cautioned us that it takes a while. Not sure why they couldn't meet mom, that doesn't seem right.
I obviously don't agree with the newspaper part at least the puppy has a loving family now.
