has aybosy got any issues with there dogs teeth? a little wear on the 4 fangs? my staff has the rest of his teeth are beautiful but his 4 front teeth are weaqring and apparently from the vets its because a tennis ball can wear them down :/

When Bunsen was a puppy we got a dog trainer. She told us how she learned the hard way about tennis balls wearing away one of her dogs teeth really badly. Just from letting it chew it and hold it in it's mouth. Apparently tennis balls are really bad for it. I'm sure it's fine to still okay fetch with them but not let them carry it around after or just sit and chew it.

It would be good to hear if anyone else has any views on this.

thank you for your reply i have stopped kobi from having a tennis ball he very rarely has 1 in teh house anyway its just when hes out i use to let him have abreak after fetching ad would sit and chew for a while ive now stopped that and stopped all treats and hide chews to give the tops of his teeth a chance to heal as hes still young! hs no where near it yet but if summet was to happen to his 4 teeth i am going to crown them which is alot lol, a staffys teeth and mouth is just as important as our hands and feet

It sounds like you might have caught it early if it's just a little wear. I've not ever considered doggies teeth getting crowned but it makes sense. But now I've got images of dogs with braces! I wonder if anyone ever has...?

ye you can deffo get them crowned and it wouldn surprise me people having there dogs teeth braced lol and since the vet has told me about a tennis ball wearing staffys teeth kobi will always hold teh ball and bite with his 4 front teeth seems obvious now that the dogw ould obviosuly bite and chew with teh 4 front as the balls too big to chew on his other teeth.

and cheers for the comments on the pics, kobi willl et me do anything to him, i pretty much spend every minute i can training him and gaining his trust! hes my best mate my companion

Jak isn't interested in playing with a ball, but a tuggie rope is his favourite, but my other dog (half fox terrier, half Jack Russell) is ball/rope/toy mad.

its good to see dogs with there toys and ropes, kobis not a huge fan of ropes, he doesnt liek tugging too much, my staff is the most soppiest staff i have and all of my friends and family have seen, you can literally say boo to him and he starts jumping around playing lol the ball for me is my safety net aswell as kobis favourite toy...we can be anywhere where theres dogs barking, growling at him, running around him, jumping on him and he will NOT move away from the ball! hes just so fixated on it but then i dont let him have a ball around the house or garden so that when we go out he knows that when he has a ball its his time to play. i like jack russels but unfortunately the only jackrussels i have come across all try and go for kobi :/

Poor Kobi, Jack Russells can be funny in my experience, but Trix is all about play, which is part of what attracted me to her, she does occasionally nip harder than she means to but its only because she is so carried away with playing.

Jak is really soppy too, his safety net is a phrase for fuss, and no matter what he's doing he will come straightaway for it. Trix (the Jack Russell Fox Terrier cross) likes to play with Jak too and pull him about by his ears, feet, tail and sometimes with the rope toy, and they'll play for hours, he will always want a cuddle after, whereas the nutty one wants to carry on playing.

Though having a staffie leap and bellyflop on you when you;re fast asleep in bed is not a good surprise at 4 in the morning, especially on a Monday!!

thanks lol and its not the actual tennis ball its the fibre on the outside that acts as a sand paper, younger dogs more prone to it, kobi may not have as strong teeth as most dogs because fo all his allergies and weak immune system
