Rolling in not nice stuff! Empty Rolling in not nice stuff!

Post by Jellytot Tue Aug 14 2012, 16:38

Ralph has just started rolling in what I thought was mud - until I got a whiff of something discusting!!!

There was pooh all round his neck and collar so he had to go in the bath!

Today he did the same, but I couldn't see any pooh - but he was wet and STANK like you've never smelt! Gross!!!

Please tell me this is not pee now! It's not like his wee, very strong smelling and I've washed him but it's still there! What gets rid of it and is there any way of stopping him doing it!

Is it foxes? confused

I'm sure I read somewhere that dogs sometimes like to mask their own scent and blend in with whats around them. Or they may not like the way they smell if they have just had a bath. Lily likes to hurl herself onto bird poo so we have to keep an eye on that one Smile

Foxs pee has a very distinct smell and the way you have described it it could well be.

Time for a nice bath me thinks, good luck Laughing

If it is fox poo then bathing may not get rid of the smell, try rubbing tomato ketchup into the area and leaving for a couple of minutes before shampooing out. There is something in tomato ketchup that neutralises the pong sick

My dog did this once - sniffed in the grass when out on a walk and then rolled in it before I realised what he had done. Strange this is though on another walk he saw some dog poo and deliberately went out of his way to walk around it - guess it was the wrong type of poo!

I find tea tree shampoo quite good at getting rid of post rolling odours! I think an apple cider vinegar rinse is supposed to be good too.

In terms of preventing it; I have two sh1t rollers and it's a very dificult thing to do, both have a pretty good leave but that only works if I say it before they actually 'shoulder drop'.

Short of keeping them on a lead or watching them like a hawk there really isn't much you can do; just part of having a poo roller! sick

Yup, my nearly 4 year old Lab suddenly decided to do it a few months ago, never done it before and not since thankfully! Perhaps it was just particularly attractive poo on that occasion! Surprised hypnotised
