Very sad news today
I got hit with very sad news today.
A few days ago i was aware Lexi one of Taz/Cassie's pups had a chest infection, her owner rushed her in to the vets this morning because she was getting worse long story short she had a heart murmer and the chest infection was simple to much for her to take, her heart and lungs started failing within hours and she was sadly put to sleep at 12:34 today.
I can't believe it was never caught in time, vet checks proved all was fine and she was along with her sister except blondy a happy go lucky pup. she reminded me a hyena her colouring and attitude lol
So i'v contacted the other pups owners and i'm intouch with vets and i'v agreed to have them all tested and scanned incase its a genetic problem I can't see that knowing my Taz and Cassie's family history so i'm going to be busy for the next few days by the looks f it.

Re: Very sad news today
Am i right in thinking taz and cassie are brother and sister? If so its not nice but these things happen with inbreeding espeacially when parents couldnt be more closely related. Sorry to hear your news

How sad
Hope the other puppies are ok... how many are there?.. You will be up for a huge vet bill as I would think there would be DNA and genetic testing to work that out..
If the other puppies look healthy i would leave it there.

Yes, they're brother & sister - inbreeding at its worse, I'm afraid.

Re: Very sad news today
It is very sad news and yes all the others seem to be brilliant but so did Lexi.
It's not the worse case of breeding brother and sister but it isn't good.
When i asked the vet about this he simply said it wouldn't be a problem but to keep on doing it down the line your going to have the problems other wise i would of had a termination done on cassie, but again i pay for good imformation and i get false imformation. so what is there to do, I know it is going to be a very large bill to pay once again i'm going to have to pull it out of my backside but i made the mistake of breeding in the first place whether they were brother and sister or not so all i can do is try to fix it. Cassie had five females all together but Tango's owner wishes to have the tests done herself so now i just have to get the other two done, Blondy doesn't need one as she has had all the test done. and yeah my luck doesn't seem to want to make an appearance the last few years. What else is there to do.

Aww thats a really sad story and hopefully all will turn out well for the other puppies fingers crossed for them. You are lucky you did not get more problems with the pups from a brother sister mating still if you had terminated the litter you wouldnt have blondie

Re: Very sad news today
I know heart murmers happen to the best of breeds but she was just a pup if she never go the chest infection she would of been fine many dogs with heart murmers live long healthy lives and its just a shame.

As long as the vet is happy but like i said the chest infection Lexi got was simply too much. so just try to catch things in time.

as its been said as long as the vet is happy dont worry to much i think the fact that lexi was so closelly interbreed would not ov help it would have just been the straw that broke the camels back when she got the chest infection

Re: Very sad news today
It is a sad story. As others have said though these thing will happen with inbreeding, the genetics of both parents are too similar and the gene pool is too small so diseases, deformaties and illnesses are much more likely to occur.
How did it happen that a brother and sister had a litter?

I was informed she was 4 months and her first season was way off which was not true, i was needed else where and Taz had Cassie only once while i was away he had the snip the next day but the carer was obviousely an idiot In not noticing cassie had come into season.

Re: Very sad news today
Well i just had the results back for other two pups their both totally healthy i find it odd now about Lexi whether or not i should talk to the vet myself, she was the healthiest more bousterous then all of them put together thats why she was first to go, i had all the tests done on them not scans but all the rest full blood everything perfectly healthy the vet cards said so.
