stalking!
Our staffy Max is very nervous.and when out for walks he will stop infront of us now and then and if we dont give him food he will jump up and try to bite our arm! we had a dog trainer come out and he said to give him food when hes like this, because it has a carming affect. This was a few months ago. But its still a problem and he has bitten dog sitter a few times now. now she wont have him without a mussel. In the house he is carm and serene.just when off lead. now put him on scull-cap and Valerian. in hope it works. Can anyone give me advise on what to try next. Thanks Jan

Re: stalking!
I would take him out and work on basic obienance commands. If he nips turn around and ignore him. Also you could try training sessions outside of the house.

Re: stalking!
I wonder why your trainer suggested food? That seems to be rewarding a behavior you don't want...?
Can you change how or where you take him out, just break the routine for a bit? Perhaps in a different setting (e.g. not on your street, or not to the same park?). If his behavior is from anxiety it will be hard to unlearn if he's still afraid of something.

Re: stalking!
Hi and welcome to the forum from Tyson and me. Is Valerain a drug?
Never reward negative behaviour and food, just like affection is a reward. he must learn that you own the food and give at for calm behaviour only. As Jstaff says...back to basics and you wont go wrong.

Re: stalking!
I went through this with Jett.He did it to the point where one night he wouldn't get back on the lead and kept trying to attack me from behind which left me with numerous wounds to my arm.
I think it was him wanting to get his own way saying "no I won't get back on the lead,I don't want to go home"
the best thing to do is not reward negative behaviour and go back to basic training.

Re: stalking!
Max IS 2 & HALF. I THINK SKULLCAP AND VALERIAN is working he seems calmer today.Trainer is of the Victoria Stillwell School. He said using food releases a hormone that calmed them down. but he now begs for treats , and this can start the biting off. Stopped the treats last few days and he seems better. Need to sort it out,so we can arrange for him and other staff molly to be looked after when we go away. Can some one tell me how to post pics of them on here please?

That exactly what Max did to dog sitter! she was looking after them both. but unknown to me she had arranged for her mums 2 cats to stay at same time! I think he got stressed out because of that! They would normally sleep upstairs with them.but cats were up there, so there routine was all messed up.

Re: stalking!
Here is a link that should help you post pics (and please do, we love them). You do need a photobucket account first but they're easy to set up if you don't have one.

Re: stalking!
Good advise above, bk to basics, don't let him off lead. You need to break the cycle that he is in.
