Re: GB medals
Billions of people in the world choose 10 000 of their best to compete for 300 odd medals. Just qualifying and competing is huge. It is not always about winning or how much it cost.

Re: GB medals
i can because we about 7 gold down from china!! i hope all of these member who didn't come anyway get their funding stop.
Re: GB medals
Well I think team GB are doing well, they work their butts off competing to be the best in the world but at the end of the day, there can pnly be one winner, and why should it be GB if the Chinese or Germans or whoever else do a better job on the day? That's the nature of sport, you win some, you lose some.

Chinese atheletes have to perform. Not only do they not get any funding but more than likely sent to labour camp if they dont achieve.
(This statement is not necessarily factual and not intended to offend. It IS tongue in cheek)
South African athletes dont have any funding to stop. All used up by corrupt government officials and sports body representatives.

they do take them away at a young age to train full time. There was a story of a diver whose grandparents were dead for three years and she didn't even find out about it until after she had won the gold medal.

Disgusting.

I'd rather get no medals at all than subject our youth to those sort of training methods.

Erghhhh just makes me wonder what kind of problems they will suffer later on in life. What on earth are they doing to their bodies. This can never be justified.

Re: GB medals
you can call china all you like at least their athletics get their job done without making stupid excuse why they have fail!
Re: GB medals
As I said, I'd rather not win any medals at all.
Win at all cost - even the cost to health & happiness - is totally wrong.

Ta Blue. Am so mad. Set PVR to record this race as I have been watching the progress of this lightweight crew all through the heats and semis only to find a scheduling problem caused it to stop short ((.
My son was stroke for lightweight four at SA Champs in his last year at school and they smashed the record which held until a few years ago.
