Re: premature pups
Wow
Firstly,welcome to the forum
I'm not a breeder myself but have read a lot and learnt a lot from fellow friends who are breeders. From what I understand pups are viable from day 57/58. Your girl is at 55 ?
It could be her mucus plug that's going, but I'd call ur vet just to advise them that something is going on.
Have u been monitoring her temp at all ?
I can't offer anything else I'm afraid but there will be others along soon who may be able to help x

Re: premature pups
Oh my goodness, well first of all, there's no such breed as an Irish Staff, she'll either be a Staff or a Staff cross.
Secondly where on earth did you get a pregnant bitch from? I hope you know what you've let yourself in for!
She's 55 days so if she does whelp tonight they will be premature but that's all I can tell you I'm afraid as I don't know much about breeding. Have you rang the vet? Have you started checking her temperature?
ETA: Oops! Double posted a bit with Jackieb there!

Re: premature pups
Just had a look in my Book of the Bitch and it says 'from about the 35th day there is likely to be a discharge of opaque or white mucus from the vagina' it goes onto say 'any blood-stained or coloured discharge is a reason to consult the vet'. Although I'd still give my vet a call if I were you.
It also says that a normal pregnancy can be from as little as 54 days to as long as 72 days after mating however from fertilisation to whelping is remarkably consistent at around 60 days. The time between mating and fertilisation is what gives the variation apparently.
It says you should be taking her temp 2/3 times a day now so you can pinpoint the drop.
How is she in herself?
