Finding out about my Grandfathers POW times Empty Finding out about my Grandfathers POW times

My aunty was doing some research today on my Grandfather. We knew he was a prisoner of war for 3 years, but just found out today where it was and his cell number and have now found a group dedicated to it on Facebook.

It was called the "STALAGS IV" which you can look up if you wish.

Interesting times.

I'd find that absolutely fascinating. I wish I could do something like that for my family but there's nobody to ask. The research I'd have to do before I even started to find out things would be horrendous!

That is facinating Hayley .. and I sorta know where ya coming from, some of my Dad's family were in Auschwitz, and he only narrowly escaped being there himself when he was about 17yrs old Sad

That's a good starting place and they should already have a data base built.

If you have his rank and number you can probably find out loads from the MOD website.

My Grandad was a motorbike dispatch rider in WW2 and had loads of stories. He went all over the world with the army. He was at Monte Casino and on the rock too. He was also in the Palestine Police at one point. He was a PT instructor to begin with.

I would love to find out more and will one day, when I can get his number from Dad. He also has the Burma Star which there is a club for.

When you go home,
Tell Them of us and say,
For your tomorrow,
We gave our today.

Very interesting stuff. I love history and geography.
