WHAT DOES MY PUPPY SLEEP ON AT NIGHT?

Hi, I have just purchased a crate from my puppy to sleep in at night but am unsure what she will sleep on? Do I put any type of bedding in the crate for her and what type as I'm thinking it will get a bit messy and damp with her not being toilet trained. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,also can i let her out in the garden under supervision before shes had her injections?

When I first got Dempsey the crate dwarfed him, so I put the bottom half of a pet carrier in one side with some bedding in it, and left the other side bare so that he could pee if he needed to. The I put a square of VetBed at the bottom to keep it all cosy, once he was fairly good at being dry overnight.

I certainly wouldn't leave it all bare, that would be a very uncomfortable & unwelcoming place for her to sleep!

Vet bed. It can be washed and dried easily!

Yes you can toilet train your pup in the garden as soon as you get them. Just be careful of night time visitors like hedgehogs, foxes etc. and cats relieving themselves in your garden! Puppies are notorious for eating ANYTHING.

I actually bleached all my postage stamp sized garden down before I got Saffy just to be sure too. But that's personal preference tbh.

I just put half the crate with blankets and the other half newspaper

He never ever wee'd or pooped on his blankets, he would always do it on the paper.

we were super lucky, Jellybean has never messed in her crate.

she does eat her bedding though


we put down the type of mat in the picture and then put a couple of cheap-ish pillows (one is the one we got from the guy we bought her from, which she still cuddles with) on top in the big crate and we spray them with bitter apple on the underside so she has stopped eating them. need to refresh it now and then, and let it dry off a bit outside the crate for 2 or 3 minutes so it doesn't make the thing totally unpleasant. we also put a fleece cheapi-ish blanket in there for her. seems to suit her just fine.

if your baby starts to chew, cheap but soft and warm is sufficient.

we have half bed half paper but we get up through the night now wih him and he's been dry for almost 2 weeks so next step is a complete bed and if he's good for a couple of weeks we will try him out of the cage and in a normal dog bed overnight once we have mineswept the floor for anything interesting or dangerous (he sleeps in our daughters room

We used blankets for a long time because she would eat any other type of bedding in her crate.

We brought Zeus an oval shaped bed when we first got him, he wee'd in it the first three days he was in his crate but after that he realised not to and that he would get taken out in the morning to relieve himself.

The only thing with the oval shaped bed was that it merely lasted a month, after that he chewed it up! We've now put in a flat cushioned mattress type thing in there, similar to a deck chair cushion which he sleeps on, and touch wood.. he hasn't tried chewing it up yet and its been a couple of months.

We've now got one of these in the crate... not good because you can't bung it in the washing machine - but good because he hasn't managed to eat it yet!!! Seems to be lasting well, just cut the tags off as anything hanging encourages chewing!!!

I now use a couple of large ex-army blankets (german army) which I got off ebay. He loves them, although he has chewed a corner off one of them.

Excellent idea, you may also be able to find these in an army surplas store if you have one local. If not try a charity shop for any blankets they may have.

We use a couple of old fleece blankets that are to small for the kids to use although they mainly sleep on the settie or our beds lol

Ruby has a plastic bed on feet in her crate, and we put her blankets in that so its off the floor of the crate, if she had accidents the pee would stay off her blankets and we wiped the feet when we washed the crate out.
