Australian Floods and Fires Empty Australian Floods and Fires

Hi there,
Caryll and Tracey, janey and others have been kind enough to ask about the floods and fires that we are having here in australia.

Luckly I live on the coast of NSW .. it has flooded here in 1998 but we were not effected.. we live on the hight part of the coast .

The floods are pretty much to the North of us as far as 2000kms and inland.
My dad is closest being up the far north QLD.. rockhapmton and places up there whole towns are under and the worst is yet to come.. we have had a hotter than average summer, so with that comes cyclones ..which means more rain for the top end of Oz.

Fires are in the south-west states.. and they killed 65 peole last year.. and the same area looks like coping it again,,
so sad as they are still re building from last years:(

thanks for your concern guys
but for now we are ok
x

Glad you're not involved, Mel. I was on another forum last year (nothing to do with dogs) and a guy I was talking to lived right on the edge of those terrible fires. He had to leave his home for quiet a while, and when he got back, although his house hadn't been burned, it had suffered terrible smoke damage & had been pillaged!

The insurance companies were trying to wangle out of things, as well.

Hope it settles down soon, although it sounds like the worst is yet to come.......

Oh, Lord, that's so terrible. We don't always realise in the UK how lucky we are with our climate.

I hope it all stops soon.

Problem is there is still another 2-3 days of over 100mm of rain due today and the rest of the week.. the rives are now at almost 20m..... it is the worst floods in history for that area Sad

Gympie is also under... there is about 30 towns along the southeast QLD that are distroyed,

Dont you guys get floods?.. or it just turns to snow?

well the worst is yet to come.. All that water is heading downhill to Brisbane.. which is still 12 hours from here, but the forcast rain is massive... so it will flow thru the rivers down south towards us.. but unless it rains here for over a week we will be fine ( i hope)

Sure, we get floods, but they're rarely that bad & even then they're fairly short lived.

At least we don't also get the forest fires you get out there.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!

Well the water levels are set to peak at midnight tonight
rivers are sitting at 19.3m - 20m..... you just cant imagine almost 100ft of water... 10 dead 80 missing... 2 kids aged 4 dead after being swept from their mothers arms Sad

all the water is now headign down stream.... For those who like the state of origin.... the grounds are now waste deep in water...
the top end of NSW where we live (about 10 hours away north) are being evacuated... and there is more rain on the way.

Then over in the west people are dying in major bush fires...
