Car harness?
I'm looking to buy some sort of car harness/attachment so Zeus is safe/secure in the car and stops him from wandering around etc. I've seen quite a few but wasn't sure which one to get. Does anyone have one? Which one would you recommend?

Re: Car harness?
We use this, but it can only be used with a harness and not a neck collar. Works a charm, because Maska does not know how to sit still in a car, and mostly wants to sit on my lap while driving - not happeing.

Re: Car harness?
The only problem is that Zeus has gotta collar at the moment, not a harness. I was told by a few people that I shouldn't put a harness on him while hes a pup as it can put pressure on his muscles and damage them etc..?

Re: Car harness?
I brought an ezydog harness and got a seatbelt attatchment free. But i forgot to take it out of my old car when it went to the scrap yard So ive just brought a new one from ebay. Its not an ezydog one,its one that clips into the seatbelt lock itself.Brought it from ebay for about £3.

A properly fitted harness will not damage his muscles. To be honest pulling against a collar would cause more long term damage then a harness would.Rather then putting pressure in one area with a collar when walking, harnesses distribute any pressure evenly.

Re: Car harness?
Thanks for that Lisa, I think I agree with you, a harness would distribute the pressure evenly.
For the time being, I've come across this, do you think it'd be suitable?

Re: Car harness?
I think the only harness that's been crash tested is the Bergan one
http://www.fleecedogharnesses.co.uk/car/bergan-dog-car-harness-review/
ETA: If in a car crash, it's likely the dog will die and may even kill you or a passenger if not secured properly in a harness (not any old one with plastic clips etc.) or behind a fixed grill in the boot (not the cheapo ones you get from halfords that you don't screw down) there's a good video I've seen on YouTube - will see if I can find it

Re: Car harness?
This looks like a nice comfy harness and they also do the seatbelt attachment for it too and it's machine washable :

Most so called car safety harnesses are not up to the job.

As said here I have the same one came with the Ezy dog harness but don't use it, be careful of the ones you buy on Ebay and be 100% vcertain its the right one for your car as they vary so much. I bought the adaptor from PAH I think £4.99 and we have one for each of them . The PAH one has 3 different male buckles so prety much guaranteed to fit your retainer in the car.
If you need a full harness then I bought a half decent one from Wilko for under a tenner, only problem was the attachment system would only connect around the seatbelt so you couldn't really leave it on out of the car (if you just wanted to take pup somewhere 10 mins) as it couldnt practically attach to a dog lead , but great as an in car harness

I always walk on a harness i don't like to walk on a collar even as a pup, as it can put to much strain on their throat

Tilly's been on a harness since she was big enough to fit a small one (she's on her 2nd now)

Totally agree with you ella, i think i'll buy a harness for Zeus as he does choke himself sometimes when he starts to pull on the lead!

Re: Car harness?
I have the harness type that clips directly into the seatbelt holder. The problem is that because the holder is raised above the seat my dog can accidentally stand on the release button and free himself. So my husband has to sit in the back seat with him (he has also stood on my husband's seatbelt button and released that as well!). Haven't found a way around this one - other than to buy a different car, lol.

Re: Car harness?
I too use the harness and belt strap thing, mainly because i had to emergency stop once and lexi flew and bumped her head on the dashboard. I felt really bad lol

Re: Car harness?
Coupled with the fact that Ledger is still trying to refuse to get into the boot I think I'm going to go back to harness and seatbelt
