Pet Insurance
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has advice on which companies are good for pet insurance?
I just want a basic cover that will pay if medical treatment for accident or illness for my fur babies
Any advice would be much appreciated as I don't know where to start!

Sorry, can't help, but I'm sure someone else will. We don't have many choices here in South Africa

Re: Pet Insurance
I've got my pet insurance with More Than. I did the whole comparison website thing and came to the conclusion that this was the best one for the money I wanted to spend. But instead of the basic cover, I took up lifetime cover which was only an extra £3/£4 a month if I remember. . The last thing you want is for Freya to have a long term illness and only be covered for that year and not the next, even though its a reoccuring illness (thats what basic cover offers).
More Than also pay directly to vets so you dont have to pay upfront and offer a whole lot of other benefits. I pay around £13 a month for Zeus.

Re: Pet Insurance
I'm also with John Lewis and in the middle of claim as we speak. I pay £18 per month and my excess is £75. Lifetime cover up to £10k a year.
My poor boy is going to undergo cruciate ligament surgery in 2 weeks time. I rang them last week to make sure everything was covered for this injury and treatment and they told me it was. Also any rehabilition such as hydrotherapy will also be covered.
So unless there are any hiccups with the claim which I hope not to be the case I'm pretty pleased with JL and the level of cover I have.
It pays to shop around though but recommendations also help. Good luck in choosing the right one for your babies :-)

Re: Pet Insurance
I'm with Sainsburys & they've been marvelous. Reasonable price, good level of cover & they've paid out large sums without quibbling.
It does pay, though, to read through a policy before you take it out & if there's something you're not sure about, phone their help line. Better to phone & feel silly than to find out later that something you thought you were covered for, you're not!

Re: Pet Insurance
Hi all,
Thanks for the advice. I have done a few searches now and I'm going to decide and set it up tomorrow.
Lis- I hope your boy's surgery and rehab both go as best they can. (and your insurance works out of course )

Re: Pet Insurance
We are with Debenhams at the moment for most of ours and Sainsburys for the other.
It really annoys me that insurance is so much cheaper in the first year to get your custom then it goes up drastically .
We would have had them all with sainsburys as when Skye was ill they paid out for £1800 of treatment with no quibbles or argument ,unfortunately with second year quotes for our dogs being on average £7 a month more this is quite a big difference in outgoings.

Re: Pet Insurance
I am with pets at home and would highly recommend them, and that's from someone who hates their stores!
I have their highest level and pay £25 altogether for the boys, they paid out quickly and correctly when we claimed for Harvey last year.

I'm with Sainsbury's been good so far £15 a month and paid the vet direct after I paid the £75 excess also covered a consultation that I wasn't expecting so I'm now in credit at the vet. They also cover teeth as the vet said that not all companies cover any dental work and I hadn't considered it til I needed it

Re: Pet Insurance
We use Argos.
£15 per month, excess not sure, think about £75.
Life time cover with £7000 per year payout, would hate the thought of bode getting a long term illness full stop, but to them be told the next year it's not covered anymore...
I just compared online and went for the cheapest that offered what I was looking for at the time to be honest.

Thank you very much Lilly. Another week to wait for the surgery and then the fun time begins of trying to keep my boy as rested as possible, which for a very active dog is a challenge in itself!
He already looks at me like I'm neglecting him not taking him for walks anymore. It's so hard, especially when they don't understand. I love my daily walks with him and it seems so weird/wrong not taking him out And we've got at least another 8 weeks more of that... but I guess all will come good in the end as long as everything goes to plan and the op is a success (fingers crossed), but his health and wellbeing is the main priority here. He can have plenty of lovely walks when he is better/fully recovered again

Change of plan renewal premium is £24.44 a month
Oh and checked their new policies and although the option 2 is £13 a month the excess is £75 + 10% of the overall bill!
I think I'm going to go with RSPCA same underwriters as Sainsburys and £18
