Hi Everyone
First topic message reminder :
Hi Everyone
I am new to this forum but have been reading threads on here for sometime now but as I am getting a new puppy this week I have joined for some help & advice as it is actually the first time i have got a dog so young.
He will be 8weeks old when i get him, all my previous staffies have been either rescue dogs or under 1 when i got them, I am not working currently so can give him all the time & training he require's.
I have been to pick my puppy today & he is a lively little chap, I do not have any pictures until i get him home on tuesday although i do have picture's of the parent's and the puppies but as they are not my picture's i am not sure if it ok to share them or not.
He is KC registered, so a purebreed staffy, black mask & a lovely red fawn colour. There was only 2 males left & one was very timid but the one i picked came up to me and licked me & started to play with my shoe lace's
My main concern currently is getting him house-trained, is it best to use a cat litter tray rather than puppy training pads/newspaper??
Thank in advance!

Re: Hi Everyone
I hadn't seen this thread before but just read through it and he looks so much healthier now how is he doing in terms of behaviour/training?

Hi and Welcome
Congrats on the new boy
I would personally not bother with the paper or tray training as you would be at home .
Rather train him to go outside .

Re: Hi Everyone
He's a cutie.
Just to weigh in on the housetraining...we quickly transitioned from paper (she was used to that at the breeders) to taking her outside every hour as I think Janey said. I do think if you're going to leave him in your hallway early on maybe some paper in there for those times, but otherwise I'd move directly to outside. Should be fine in your yard even if no shots yet if no other dogs/dog poo there.
I'm a crate fan and would agree with Caryll's advice. In fact I'm pretty sure everything I did with the crate was from Caryll's advice Even if you're not working outside your home at present you are going to go out to the grocery store, with friends, etc...Cal runs into her crate at times for a nap or a chew, whines to get in it at night (of course she also whines to get out of it and on someone's bed around 5 AM, but that's a different story

Re: Hi Everyone
hello and welcome to you and Buddy, he does seem thin but will soon pile on some weight. Dread to think what might have happened to the other pups!!
