Off to the vet again tomorrow
A few months ago, I took Kita to the vet as she was having some "urgency" & "frequency" with needing to pee.
They did blood and urine tests and everything came back ok as expected for a 15 year old dog, no diabetes, no kidney failure.
He thought she may have kidney stones, but he couldn't tell unless she had an ultrasound at approx $500, so we decided to see how things went. It didn't get any worse and she settled although still seemed to go quite often.
We came back last Saturday after being in Adelaide for my dad's funeral and I noted some spots of discolouration on our white tiles, but it took me a few days of chasing dogs around after toileting to work out who, what and where. Now I've realised that Kita is passing some blood when she wees and although it's not bothering her, I'm a little worried of what may be causing it.
I'm trying not to think of bad things, but it's not that easy when I've been a nurse for over 35 years, so I'm praying that its something we can treat easily

Re: Off to the vet again tomorrow
Lee, I hope all goes well with Kita tomorrow at the vets and they find out what it is..I can only imagine how scarey it must be ....
Winston had terrible diarrhea a few days ago and he did a pooh out walking with blood in it...and I know how I felt when I saw that, but luckily after that I didn't see any more blood...
Sending you and my darling Kita girl lots of positive thoughts and a big ><
Will be thinking of you both XXX

Re: Off to the vet again tomorrow
Just back from the vet.
Saw the other one this time and he palpated her abdomen for quite a while but could not feel any "mass" or anything else like large kidney stones.
He thinks it may be a UTI, so I chose the antibiotic injection (one off) rather than a course of oral A/B's. I'll see how she goes over the next two weeks.
Wondering if anyone has any natural remedies to help prevent them. I know in humans we encourage taking cranberry juice.
Someone suggested cooking celery and using the juice, but I know it has diuretic effects and I don't want to dehydrate her.

Hopefully the injection will see her right again.
I don't see why she can't have a little cranberry juice - maybe watered down a little.

I bet she was a brave girl when she had her injection !
Yes I was thinking maybe some watered down cranberry juice..I know you can get cranberry capsules for UTI infections too. ( Cenovis make them )
Give the darling a cuddle for me !

Thanks Caryll and Vanessa.
I'm just googling it now and some suggest cirtus juice or pellets.
