funny behavior
Callie does the weirdest thing, I wonder if any of you have seen this...
There are quite a few dogs on our little street. There is a neighbor whom we often see walking in the morning with his golden and his lab mix, both older, large, but very well-behaved.
Whenever Cal sees them she stops dead and lies down in the street! Flat on her tummy, nose on the ground between her paws, and waits for them to approach. Shakes a little. It's not a play bow, she looks like she is making herself as small as possible. As soon as they are within a few feet she jumps up right to greet them and everyone has a little sniff and a chat. They have always been very gentle with her, though the golden does jump on me a bit. She'd love to follow them but I don't want to bug the poor man with my overly energetic puppy. I have never seen her do anything like this with any other dog or situation!
Is she scared? She seems happy once they approach. It seems a weird way to show submission...

Re: funny behavior
I could be totally wrong but I would see that as submission, I haven't seen it in Moo, she is very dominant, and getting more so!
Or it could be her little way, they can have funny behaviour at times lol Xx

Re: funny behavior
I guess so, right? It's just funny, I've never seen her do it elsewhere. It is not her "scared" behavior (fidgets, snorts repeatedly...we see this with the scary muffin pan, large cardboard boxes and of course the terrifying blue yoga ball )
Moo is adorable. She sounds like a trip. I love her enormous tongue in your pic.

Re: funny behavior
They are, to an extent! Moo actually had the guts to bark at the neighbours recycling bag today, rather than pull me to the otherside of the road

Re: funny behavior
Jett started doing this when he was 3 months old (he still does it now) Like Janey said,It's submission Or as Jett likes to call it "pretending to be a commando" xD

Corageous??? You should see Charlie when I get the bin liners out! When I need to change the bin and get the bags out, his head goes down, his tail goes between his legs. When I tear one of the bags off the roll, he takes a few steps towards the nearest exit. And when Ishake the bag out, well, you'd think he'd just come across a fully grown bear, he legs it! It's hilarious!!
But yes, I agree with Janey, sounds like submission to me. It's as if callie is just letting the lab and golden know that she knows who is boss, and when she feels that she has done that, she's happy to play

I just don't think Miss Scary Muffin Pan would cut it as a commando

Re: funny behavior
In your case it probably is submission - "I'm no threat to you. I'll prove it by laying down".
In DEmpsey's case it's "If I lay down my silly owner can't pull me away".

I'd love to see you trying to move Dempsey if he REALLY didn't want to be moved, I bet he's got some weight on him!!

Re: funny behavior
It isn't just his weight (he's 30 kilos), he puts on a show. He flops down & leans away from the lead. Then he gives everybody his ill-treated look, coupled occasionally by a slight wag of the tail, and if I try to drag him he literally slides over the grass on his belly.
The amount of times people have said to me "Oh, look, a big boy like that being submissive....."

Re: funny behavior
He really does sound like SUCH a character!!! He and Charlie would get on great, Charlie isn't dominant and loves to play with big, hefty dogs that can take it. Although I can tell from your post about his bath that he loves to roll in sh1t, as does Charlie and if they both decided to roll on sh1t together, the stench would probably be more than we could bear!!

Re: funny behavior
I think it's submittion as well and a sign of respect for the older dogs. Suki doesn't really do it though.
