Thanks for the reminder, already set to record. Won't watch it as it goes out as Benson gets confused when I argue with the telly.

Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
I'll be watching it although can't help feeling a little apprehensive...
After looking at the listing, it says "...Looks at how attacks by dangerous dogs have reached record levels in the UK..." as I've said elsewhere this morning, I wonder if they'll explain that the stats are on bites AND strikes and there's no way of knowing whether it's attacks or accidents that are on the rise?
Also I wonder if they'll mention that the number of children injured by dogs has actually fallen in the last 10 years?

But why wouldn't the owner let the trainer carry on , I got sidetracked as Tommy was busy chewing my arm and the OH said the trainer said it was working and the owner said it was making him worse

So, what amazing things did they come up with to stop the problems?

Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
Why is everyone's first reaction put it down?
No that staffy didn't need putting down, he needed a better owner, the 'pitbull' has never been a pit and was far to large.
Overall a biased, one sided show that was quite frankly *

He came across 2 stray staffys wandering the streets and had tried to get away but they both attacked him by taking a leg each and "reportedly" dragged him 15ft down someones drive, apparently they had been hitting the dogs with all sorts but they wouldn't relaease him and were eventually distracted after 15 mins by a police siren , the scars on his legs were terrible Don't think it said what happened to the dogs though, or whether they were traced back to owners etc

Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
Ive just watched it.
There were comments about not specific breed banning, or on looks, but rather on the individual behavour of dogs.. that makes sense.
They mentioned plenty of times "the owner" as opposed to the breed.
Of course there were clips of pitbulls, a banned breed, the family who's child was killed owned ptbulls, and the uncle bred them.....they are banned in the uk for a reason i guess, the same reason staffies are not?
In the dogs home, as they passed the staffs, they were all smiles, tails wagging, certainly not a breed to be scared of.
There were some stereotype comments, and the idiot teenager who talks like, well, I wont go into details "init" with there "protection" status dogs..
I didnt like the comment about "face piercing tattooed thugs" I have my eye brow pierced, and a few tattoo's, dont tarnish me with the same brush as "thugs" due to my appearance, thats exactly whats happening with the breeds due to how they look, I am a very responsible dog owner!
I'm not sure how I feel about the program to be honest, there were moments where they seemed to try and talk sense, but other points where i didnt agree at all (each to their own i guess)
I'm not sure why the guy didnt want the progress with his staffy being filmed? perhaps he was worried it would make the dog look bad if they were having to trigger it off lots making it aggressive to find out what was causing it?

Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
I thought it was rubbish. We've seen/heard it all before. It was mostly staffies/staffy crosses they showed, which really doesn't surprise me. There was nothing particularly informative about it, and no real plans for changes that will benefit all to be brought in anytime soon.
Compulsory microchipping can't be effectively enforced IMO, and changing the law to cover private property will have both positive and negative effects I think. What about the dog that attacks the burglar threatening it's family? Under the new law, that would be illegal, just like the law that says the homeowner can be charged for assaulting the burglar.
I don't htink the show added anything to the debate, and it certainly won't change anything.

i didn't think it wasn't that bad no one was calling for any other breed to be banned they was blaming owners
Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
There was a gathering of 'responsible owners' in the park with their dogs and the trainer but not one of them was a staffie - funny that, there are two staffies in the class I go to.

Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
To say that staffy needed put down is ott!for all we know he could have been muzzled and head butted,slapped,etc..doesn't bear thinking about.he was ok until staring into his eyes which is a natural reaction for a dog to be challenged.he may well have became worse but that doesn't mean he needs put down!!!maybe it's the training?you can see umpteen doctors and they will give you a different diagnosis for the same condition.many humans who we're bad who are now in the public eye should have been killed if that's the case.but to say it should be killed is absurd!as for the rest of the programme it was more or less stereo typical.I agree with the law as it stands it's a farce, just like the poor Pitt that got put down, soft as clarts,it is most definatly the deed not the breed IMOSteve wrote:i think the show was alright that staffy need putting down...

IMO the dog need putting down before some get biten by it, it's clear the owner doesn't have a clue about bring up a dog.

Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
I agree Steve that staff should have been put to sleep, it shouldn't have been rehomed being people aggressive..
The problem is the damage they can do when trained wrongly...that poor postman
It just makes me sad that there so many dogs in the wrong hands and most of them in rescue was staffs...its a very sad state of affairs...

And whys that?
My Chance was rehomed, obv, he's people aggressive but as we are responsible owners he's never bitten anyone whilst being with us.
That is no excuse to put a dog down, just need a better owner

Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
there some dog you can retrain and other who cant that staffy look like a dog that wont be retrain and need putting down before another person or kid get hurt in our society and how the newspapers are we cant take the risk for more bad news!
Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
yes i dont think that dog would ever have been suitable for rehoming, he would always be unpredictable.

Re: Tonight at 8 on ITV 1
Same old *, dunno why we expected any different ?
God forbid them to actually show a staffy snuggling upto a child.
Why show a tense staffy and some teenage wannabe who can't even pronounce his words ? ....
And the owner of that staffy that was crated all the time, what a waste of space, I'd say that poor dog was nervous, unsure and anxious.....hence not knowing how to interact with others, owners fault.
Why didn't they show snappy dogs ? Yorkies, Chiwawas and the like ?
At least deed not breed was banded around, and nice touch with the crying nurse who had to put down the 'pitbull'
Other than that... Sigh
