Bella's HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW PICS!!
Well she is finally home after all the waiting. Was a star on the way home and fell asleep for most of the journey, was a little sick when we stopped at the local pet shop to pick up supplies but they absolutely love her and want a pic to put on their wall of fame She has pooed outside three times once inside and 2 accidents but thats a long road to go down. Still feel so happy and proud to have a gorgeous staffie join our family. Pics to follow

Re: Bella's HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW PICS!!
Quick question. Bella is neither fled or wormed, this was the first litter from the breeders family dogs so they weren't experienced and didn't feel it neccassry to do either of these things (quite annoying really). As both these treatments are available without prescription these days is it ok to buy them myself or am I better to wait until her first vet check? Under my vets healthy pet club all these things get done regularly for £10 pcm but don't want her picking anything up in the garden, if thats possible.

Congrats! she is so cute
I would get the worming treatment from the vet as they will weigh her to make sure she gets the right amount.

Definitely pop her to the vet , haven't checked on the posts but have you picked her up at 8 weeks ?? did she have her jabs before leaving ?? If so then I find it hard to believe that the vet hasn't given her something already ??
Anyway , the important thing is that she's in your care now so you are in control
How did your first night go with her ??
Oh BTW it is now 11.49 by my pc clock and I don't recall seeing any photos today

Re: Bella's HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW PICS!!
Aww she's gorgeous, def pop her up to the vets for worming tablets, and her jabs if she hasn't had them already!
Personally I do not flea treat mine, touch wood she hasn't had a flea on her and she's not in contact with cats etc so I don't want to be puttin unnecessary chemicals on her!

I wouldn't flea treat her yet, if at all (I know that's a bit controversial nowadays, but I don't think they should have loads of chemicals on them if they don't need them), but you must get her wormed, the sooner the better. I take it she's had no worming at all? Naughty breeders! She should have already been wormed at least twice & she'll have quite a worm burden. Expect to see a few passed in her poo when she's had the wormer!
I would always get the wormer from a vet at that young age to make sure it's axactly right.

Re: Bella's HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW PICS!!
Thanks guys she is actually a few days short of 8 weeks unbeknownst to me Neither vet checked, flead or wormed. The breeders reckoned that because the mother was wormed this would pass to the pups through her milk although I don't know how true this is! Be that as it may she hasn't had any mothers milk according to the breeders for a while yet so a bit peeved they didn't do this really. Anyhow I shall be taking her to my local vets next saturday to start her vaccinations and get a wormer, my cat is flead regularly so not too worried about that to be honest. Being a staff I can easily see if Bella actually has any. Dave did you not see the pic of Bella in her crate having a snooze? Will try to get more up today but we are so consumed with playing with her

I dont know for definate but this doesn't sound very likely to me.
I would make sure the puppy has it's own worming tablets anyway.

Yes I did see her pic in the crate at 20.35 on Friday , but that was an entire day before Saturday , how very selfish of you not to spend your entire Saturday taking pictures of your new baby and posting them on here, andf BTW its Sunday now
And lastly , when you posted her crate pic , it said "First of many" exactly how long are we expected to wait for the rest , Rant Over

Re: Bella's HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW PICS!!
Hi Donna
Bless her she is so cute.
To be honest i'd get her to the vet as soon as you can. One for the worming tablets and two so the vet can give her a proper check over. The sooner to 8 weeks you get her jabs done the sooner she will be covered and can go out.
We had both our pups done on the day that they were exactly 8 weeks as this is what both the breeders recommended.

Re: Bella's HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW PICS!!
Hi guys,
I didn't delay and took Bella to the vets today to get her jabs, wormer course started. She weighs a healthy 3.4kg and is in great shape. All the staff were cooing over her, I took my 5 month old son too they both loved all the attention and I was a very proud mummy Back in 2 weeks for 2nd jab and maybe microchip if she is big enough (apparently the needle is quite big )

Just seen this, and not to put too fine a point on it, it's absolute crap! Yes, the expectant bitch should be wormed, but she will still pass the worm eggs to the pups - that's just nature. Pups should be wormed at least twice before they leave the mother (if that's wrong, I'm sure someone will put me right!) and then every month until 6 months old, then every 3 months.

Oh well not much can be done now the main thing is I am now sorting her out myself. To be honest I think it was more of a lack of knowledge on the breeders part as opposed to any other reason, I didn't want to preach to them but all I can say is thank god for this fantastic forum. The research I have been able to do through here has been invaluable and has made me confident that Bella will turn into a happy, healthy well trained pup x

Re: Bella's HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW PICS!!
Shes beautiful, and lucky you are getting her sorted properly. That pic of her asleep with your little one is just adorable
Our girl was from a home breeder and although they didnt seem overly clued up they did a wonderful job with the pups, vet checked twice, wormed regularly, pretty much toilet trained to go outside by watching the parent dogs going outside, and they even knew their names by the time they were ready to leave mum! Im so thankful they had a good start and got the treatments they needed, but i cant imagine it would have done your little girl that much harm in waiting. As for the microchip, Ruby was done at 8 weeks by an in home mobile microchipper and it was a bit cheaper than going to the vets (we didnt want her having a car journey to have a 'big' needle, neednt have worried in the end though but still). She didnt even flinch, so i wouldnt worry about her feeling the needle too much
Hope you're having lots of fun with her, Ruby is growing up so fast it seems a lifetime ago already that she was a dinky little 8 weeks old, shes now 17 weeks and growing like a weed, make the most of the little days

Thats brill about the mobile microchipper! Our vets have a healthy pet club that Bella is enrolled on and we get the microchipping included in that. I expect she will be ok to have that next time (2 weeks today) The family we got her from were no where near as good as yours as lovely as they were we will keep in touch with them but clearly weren't too bothered about vet checks etc etc. I hope next time (if there is one) they will do the right thing but I don't think Bella will have any lasting effects like you said. Ruby is an absolute stunner BTW and such a good girl. Bella is a nightmare with weeing and pooing, its hard because she won't go outside of her own accord and will only go out with one of us. She's just a baby though so am aware it must be quite scary for her really x

At least Bella's being looked after & getting treatment - you know she's in safe hands!
