Blue staffies
Hi
Does anyone know if blue staffies are genetically different to other staffys? A friend of ours was chatting to a chap who had a blue staffy that was very small and he claimed that it was bred to be small. Also he is a breeder of small blue staffys and was asking £1,000 per animal.
We have a rescue staffy and I have checked against the kc guidelines and he is at the top end in regards to size and we have seen a blue staffy who is two months younger than him ( our dog des is 1 year 9 months) and the blue staffy is 4 inches smaller in height.
Have you any thoughts on this?

Re: Blue staffies
No, genetically they're exactly the same! It's just that some are bigger/smaller than others, same as any colour.

Re: Blue staffies
Colour in itself makes no difference at all to the shape/size of any animal.

Re: Blue staffies
Mines small,14"at shoulder and 20kg but they're like any other colour staff they come in all sizes.the breeder must just be picking small staffs to breed just as if you were to breed tall staffs the pups would be tall

Re: Blue staffies
Actually dilutes (blues, fawns, etc.) have allergies and alopecia more commonly than other colors, especially if both parents were dilutes. I can't find the link at the moment as I'm on my phone, but it has been discussed many times on this forum.

Re: Blue staffies
None of which has anything to do with the original question!
Genetically blues are the same as any other colour, no bigger or smaller.

Re: Blue staffies
It's not about "blue bashing," it's about breeding dogs for health and temperament rather than for color. It's something I feel strongly about and something I think should be brought up whenever people have questions about blue dogs. Its important to talk about it and keep people informed.

Re: Blue staffies
i personally dont think there is anything wrong with dilutes or whites, as long as they are bred to be healthy animals and only healthy animals are bred from so that one day we wont need to mention colours having health issues
Re: Blue staffies
nothing wrong with blues, fawns or whites It's when you bred them together increase risk of health problem there many topic on here about this Taryn i'm not going get in another big debate any body breed these 2 colour together in my eye is a bad/lazy breeder everyone should stay well clear of them..

Just a little P.S. Any 'breeder' who charges more for a blue (or any other so called rare or popular colour) stafford is a poor breeder who's only out to get loads of ££££s & cares nothing whatsoever about the health of the dogs he/she is breeding.
Blue is a naturally occuring colour, isn't rare at all, and should cost the same as any other coloured pup!

Thanks guys
Thanks for your advice guys, we looked up the average cost for a kennel club dog and it was much less too. We have gone back to our freinds to advise.
I think all staffies are great and personally own one dark brindle and white rescue male who looks amazing.
I keep reptiles and fashions for colours change all the time and a albino is so much more expensive than a normal coloured leopard gecko. This is annoying as it gets to a point that breeders just focus on that area and then other colours get rare and go up in price etc.

Yes, it's the same with staffs - even though the blues aren't rare, the poor breeders will tell everyone that they are, and will charge more for them.
