grrrrrr.... hormones!
Buster is now 8 1/2 months old and I think it is safe to say he has reached the "teenage" stage! Last night at dog training he had a right one on him and was playing up really badly, worse than he did even in his first lesson! There was a new pup there and at one point he shot off and ran behind the pup (he never touched it, just ran behind it to get its toy) the pup yelped and shot off from under the chair. I caught Buster and as I started walking back over to where he was supposed to be I heard the lady who owned the pup say something about "that sort of dog" she then sat there making a fuss of her dog, despite being told not too. He was noisy whenever we had to sit and wait for other dogs to do something, kept jumping up everyone, even the trainer who tried to ignore him, but unfortunatly that doesnt seem to stop him. Then after he was playing with one of the other dogs, but kept jumping up his owner, and another one that came to join us! Luckily they all know Buster and so werent scared of him, and having young dogs themselves they could sympathise with this a bit.
Out on walks he is being a pain, and in the house he keeps trying to chew the boys toys - that he knows he's not allowed! I really hope this stage doesnt last long. A few days/week in and Im at my wits end already! And to top it all, Lewis is also going through the terrible two's!!

Oh, dear. Buster, you're being a pain in the a*se!!!
Back to basics, I'm afraid & just try to weather the storm. It will improve, honestly!

Lol, back to basics wont be hard - only just started progressing from them! He has been trying to jump up people lots recently, but because he is kept on his long line I have been able to stop him. I think last night he decided to make the most of his freedom! I will keep on with it all though, I know it comes to an end eventually! Walking during the day is hard work atm, with Buster and Lewis both being disobedient, still, at least Buster cant walk along screaming at the top of his lungs.

With me, it's the other way around - Dempsey's quite obedient now, but the kids are both teenagers!

Im not going to give him any ideas! I dread when both of mine reach teenage years, the terrible 2's are enough, at least he cant answer back too much at the moment, and if he refuses to walk or go somewhere I can carry him- Lewis I mean!
The humping things hasn't started yet, I suppose that's next? I don't give in, if I ask Buster to do something (e.g. Sit) and he doesn't I won't move or do anything else untill he does it (spending alot of time stood waiting to cross a clear road at the moment! ) I'm hoping he'll cave in before I do

Buster I hope!! I know kids are growing up quicker, but I think even that is a bit extreme!

funny you say that - having been brought up around dogs I do tend to "train" the kids in the same way! They get a treat if they are good, we decided on house rules and have stuck to them, if I ask them to do something I will not give in, potty training tends to be the same, and they even have the same commands - sit, stay, bed, leave it.....

Re: grrrrrr.... hormones!
Umm they're not really that different are they
I probably shouldn't say this but, touch wood, Rocky has been OK so far and he is about 2yr 6months old shhhhh dont tell him he is pretty well behaved, considering his start in life.

Staffie yodel. I know it well. Monte does it when he wants to meet strangers. Nobody taught him not to speak to strangers... My oldest is going to be a teen this year. Oh joy.

I'm not letting Buster anywhere near this site - I don't want him getting idea's!! lol.
Last night he did a runner out of the house He wouldn't come back to me, kept jumping around just out of arms reach It took me and two complete strangers about 15 mins to eventually catch him! Then out on our walks he has been good as gold and not put a foot wrong! He is at work with the OH today. Buster doesn't pay any attention to him when he's being good, I dread to think what he will be like when he's playing up!
