strange dog colour
just a side thought from today at the Aptus International Show. There was a dog competeing that was red... but.. blue...its hard to discribe.. it was as if the two colours had been mixed. it was solid in colour... but had a red coat with a blue cast on it... it was very pretty and clearly pedigree if i was competeing against it but still... very odd. has anyone ever seen that before?
Re: strange dog colour
You beat me too it Steve we had a blue fawn in the family she was light reddy fawn but in the light had the blue over cast on her, she was gorgeous alittle darker than that cutie puppy in your picture.

Re: strange dog colour
yeah he was just like that. right beautiful he was, very cute. i had never EVER seen it before. shows you you learn new things every day. cant be too common i must say
Re: strange dog colour
Blue fawn is a dilution of red. Just like a normal blue is a dilution of black. They're allowed, but aren't as popular as the dark blues.
Bandit's mum had a touch of blue fawn to her, although it wasn't pronounced.

Re: strange dog colour
he was the only one there, so i hope they dont breed for the colour. but he was such a sweety pie. i'm going to go through my show book and see if i can find him now
Re: strange dog colour
Yes, he's a blue fawn. He wouldn't do very well in the show ring in the UK because he doesn't have a black nose.

Re: strange dog colour
he looks like red to me on the pics just a bit of a lighter shade, maybe the photo doesn't do him justice, handsome devil though

Look carefully around the ears, muzzle & eyes & you'll see the blue.

Re: strange dog colour
this pup was younger them mine, so romeo lost out on the cutie puppy baby factor. but i think Romeo makes up for it in the devishly handsome area
Re: strange dog colour
Certainly a gorgeous looking dog anyways, I've never seen a colour like that before.

I think blue fawn is a very striking color! Saxon's father is a blue fawn:

Re: strange dog colour
I'd he was bred with a blue bitch would that be too close to blue on blue? Also if he bred to a black bitch would there be a possibility of blue pups?

As it's a dilute, he shouldn't be bred to another blue or a fawn. If he was bred to a black/brindle there would certainly be a possibility of blue.

Re: strange dog colour
Saxon's grandfather was bred to a brindle bitch and that litter produced Saxon's father, who is a very striking dog of the blue fawn color.
