An Akita Encounter
I suspect the Daily Mail Wouldn't print this: Staffy meets two Akitas and there's no blood
While walking Mia last week I caught up with a lady standing with two Akitas. As we got near the big male ran towards us and Mia tried to run off. Neither dog got far, being on the leads, so she decided to hide behind me with her tail between her legs.
I wasn't really keen on leaving her with that experience and the owner seemed comfortable so I stayed for a chat with her. Obviously her dogs are becoming known as dangerous so it was quite interesting hearing how much grief she gets from people in the area when we have mostly had positive feedback from people which surprised me, frankly.
Meanwhile, Mia gained a bit of confidence and flipped into her usual pose when she meets other dogs:
Yes, she's an utter tart. She does this with pretty much any dog we've met (even Chihauhas).
The white female wasn't so keen and offered a bit of hostility but after a while, the male Akita lay down:
The owner said she wished everyone on the estate could see the encounter, as it might stop them crossing the road to avoid her.
We walked a bit further together and by the time we parted, Mia was trying to jump on the male Akita's head so I'm pleasd I stayed long enough for both parties to be comfortable. I don't know how Mia would react when she met another Akita if I hadn't.

Love the pics. It's so nice to see two breeds that get bad press behaving so beautifully!

Ahh very nice to see!!
Mia's looking good too! You don't post enough pics of her!!
Yes its not just staff owners who have to suffer the bad breed label, some of our ideas about the DDA would be good at tackling the problem rather than passing it on to another breed, I need to pull my finger out and type up something proper but just don't get a chance!!

Re: An Akita Encounter
Our neighbours in Adelaide had an Akita who was around 1yr old when we got Izzy. They only met a few times out on walks, but I think an escape tunnel under our fence would have been found in the not to distant future had we not moved interstate late 2010.
Cute pics

Great pics and wonderful to see them. Didn't realize Akitas were getting such a bad rap over there. Beautiful dogs.

It's great to see two breeds getting along so well together, please send the pictures to the newspapers.
We hear so many storys of the other kind would be great to read a good news story for a change, thanks for sharing your pictures.
