New from Canada
Hello all,
Quick introduction. I do not as of yet have a staffy, but I am on a wait list at a decent breeder 1.5 hrs from me. I am in my fifties, female, and have owned/trained/worked with dogs all my life. We currently have a 9 yr old neutered male Rhodesian Ridgeback and a 3 yr old neutered male miniature long haired dachshund. The Rhodesian I kept back from a litter I bred, and he has been a wonderful dog. However, he is dealing with recurring lipomas which make him very uncomfortable. I want to bring a female staffy pup into the household while he is still happy with meeting new dogs so he can help with the beginning of her training. I have always done this, as the older dogs do so much of the work if you work with them! The mini dachs is my best bud and will travel anywhere and do anything with us. We also have two very intelligent cats who help raise the dogs, and then use them as back up against any neighbourhood dog or cat. I am enjoying reading the board, and look forward to my compact big dog of the future, lol.

Re: New from Canada
Welcome to the forum. You will have a very interesting pet family! Staffs are very much people dogs and I wouldn't be suprised if your little girl doesn't get a bit jealous and want to join you and your mini dachs. However, as you probably already know, be careful with you mini and the Staff. Sometimes the staffs don't know their own strength and they are far stronger than your mini can handle. Should be fine though with all the training and oversight I am sure you will provide.

Hi and welcome to the forum!!
I can imagine how excited you must be as I will become a staffy mom in 15 days!
I own an Alaskan Malamute who is almost 13 yrs old (and I am a bit scared how will the introduction go, hope that all goes well! If you have any advice for me, please.)
Looking forward to seeing pics of your new princess as well as reading your posts.
Many regards from me, Luka (my boyfriend), Dingo (the Malamute) and Vigo (the soon-to-be-ours staffy)

Hi & welcome.
We don't have many Canadian members here. Is it difficult to get staffords in Canada?

Re: New from Canada
Thank you all for the warm welcome. It has been several years since I was a member of a breed forum. Yes, bbimson, I know the potential for harm to the mini dachs, but my 90 lb ridgeback was considered by all to be far too boistrous and large for him too, lol. They have slept and wrestled, played chase together since Lyric [the dachs] was a pup, and yes, Caesar occasionally steps on him, but otherwise things are great--Lyric learns to watch and scoot, and he has no trouble telling pups of any breed to smarten up.
Of course, I would not leave the new girl with him until I was certain of her developing personality, but she will definitely get lots of out and about learning time.
Caryll, no there are not many staffies in Canada. That is partly because of BSL in Ontario--which is where the largest segment of the population lives. Anything resembling a bull breed is not welcome there. Across the country, there are several rescues that began as dogs were sent from Ontario to save them from slaughter-all manner of bull breeds were included. There are a few good breeders and several not so great, but it is that way in most breeds. Most people in my part of the world are afraid of anything that resembles a pitbull, so it will be an interesting time. However, I am not one to care what others think, and am perfectly able to defend my decision to own a breed I admire, lol.

Re: New from Canada
My dog Monte is actually bred by a person in Alaska who works closely with a breeder in Canada. They are hard to get here as well. Can't wait to see how you all get along! I think most of us owners have to be a bit thicked skinned with all the breed biases around.

Hi and welcome to the forum ><
Great pic....look forward to your future posts.
If you can handle the energy level of a ridgeback you will be great with a staffy. Look forward to seeing the pics and lots of them of your new addition when they arrive

Kyna is here
Hi everyone--I finally am part of the Staffy owning public, lol. On Tuesday I picked up Kyna from her breeder. She is 10 weeks and just a bundle of love and speed. She learns quickly, and I just adore puppy knowledge sponges. Playtime this morning---as you can see my boys are learning how to deal with the new girl in the house!
