irregular heart rthyme
As yoyu may remember, kenny had an elec shock laterly. He was fine, but latley something just didnt seem right. Been to the vet and he as an irregular heart rhythme ( sorry about spelling). Im gutted, keep thinking the worse, i cant lose another dog, not yet. The vet said it's only slight, but needs an ecg to see whats going on. any1 had the same xx

Re: irregular heart rthyme
No sorry, never experienced it, do they think it was part and parcel from the shock or something he was born with? I feel your worry but if the vet isn't worried take heed of that ><

Re: irregular heart rthyme
Janey, i really cant cope if it's the worse end, i've had such a bad 2011. My staffy had to be pts, then my sister passed away, then my dad 10 weeks later. Kenny and me have got through so much, he's more than a pet x

Re: irregular heart rthyme
Don't look on the black side. An irregular heart rhythm can dissappear as quickly as it came. But even if it doesn't he can live a full & healthy life - he may not even need medication.
Just wait & see what the ecg comes up with & take it from there.
You're not going to lose him.

Re: irregular heart rthyme
Kelly don't beat yourself up , this is not a result of the electric shock, but it is a condition that can be shown up because of the shock. I have just been doing a paediatric first aid course over the past couple of weeeks and the guy was an ex paramedic and I was discussing this deal with your boy and the whole procedure regarding humans and shock , ventricular fibrilation etc. How he explained to me was the shock risk to health was if you have an irregular heartbeat it can cause problems at the time which is why they want to monitor but it doesn't create the irregular heartbeat in the first place. For a defibrilator to work there has to be electrical activity in the heart to begin with (this is where the CPR comes in) , I always thought that the defribrilator jump starts the heart , it doesn't it puts it back on track, so with humans now if they have problems they can have a defibrilator implant so if the heart goes out of rhythm it shocks the heart to put it back on track

Re: irregular heart rthyme
We will be thinking of you!! My Bowie (the cat) has a heart murmur and I was terrified when I found out, I was thinking the absolute worst. It has gotten better with time, though, and it doesn't negatively effect him in any way. Try not to worry, you're only doing yourself a disservice to worry without any facts. Good luck at the vets! Keep us posted!

Re: irregular heart rthyme
Just saw this... I am so glad that everything went well.. I know what it is like to be really worried over a beloved pet.
My old doggie Kimba was a corgi/samoyd cross and he had a heart murmur but it never worried him at all...When he was PTS at about 13 he had cancer of the pancreas and was in alot of pain ( and I don't mind telling you one of the worse periods of my life! ) but had lead a long and happy life with no ill effects from his heart murmur ( and I even have one too!! .. hope I live a long and happy life! )

Re: irregular heart rthyme
Vanessa, it's really hard when you have a pet who's ill. Im so sorry about Kimba, 13 years is a wonderfull long life for a dog, it proves if we care for them properly, we get to keep them a little longer. I really thought i was going to lose kenny. The only down side to is he has 4 lovely bald patches after his shave. lol
What i love about this site is everybody really does care.

Re: irregular heart rthyme
Kelly..when Kimba died I honestly thought I was dying from a broken heart..... and I vowed I would never ever get that attached to another dog....HUH!! Now I have Jethro who is coming up for 13...and I love him more than life itself...... why can't our pets live longer??? !!!
