Re: Connecting to WIFI???
What opperating system? You should have a wifi signal indicator in the bottom left hand corner in win 7. Mac is up top left hand corner. Make sure your wireless is turned on though as that is most often the problem when you can't connect. Also, if you are joining a non-public wireless connection, you will need the password.

Re: Connecting to WIFI???
Hi Janey
Its just like Ben said, but its on the bottom right next to the clock, tends to look like a computer screen with a pitch fork or a bar chart.
Then select the Wifi that you would like to use from the list that it finds, it will be different from the pic i have shown here.
it may ask for a password, you will have to get it from the person who setup the wifi or it could be on the back of the wifi router. once entered thats it your online.
Note if you have never used the wifi on you laptop before, it may not be turned on. If not look for a switch on the case of the laptop or a quick key on the keyboard, both of which tends to look like a satellite dish. this will need to be on first.

Re: Connecting to WIFI???
you click onto the pc screen icon, normaly hotels or B&B have wifi so you will need to get the username and password off them
Re: Connecting to WIFI???

Re: Connecting to WIFI???
No problem every one starts somewhere!janey wrote:

As for the symbols are you meaning the quick key or the one next to the clock on the bottom right of your screen, sometime there is a small icon with a right arrow, this is hiding some icons to keep the screen clean, press it and see if the symbol appears.
To turn wifi on, there is more than one way to turn it on. we will try the quick key way, Firstly could you give me the model number of our laptop. This will allow me to see what your keyboard looks like.

Re: Connecting to WIFI???
janey if your using a dongle your wifi is turned on to allow your dongle to upload to your lappy.
easyist thing to do is take your dongle and just pair that to the wifi signal that is what i needid to do with my old lappy as it didnt have built in wifi
the symbol your looking for will either be a pc screen or a 5 line bar small at one side getting bigger to the other.
or cheat by trying to go on the internet if it dont work a message will come up no signal click on fix and it will give you the available devices in range

Wazza sorry mate but that is not always true, only certain types for 3g dongles have a built in WIFI adapter.

Re: Connecting to WIFI???
Well I have learned something new today, The only ones I have ever dealt with are enterprise class units, used for back up connections in offices.bigwazza wrote:no they were just 3g dongles that i payed a fiver for a month

Re: Connecting to WIFI???
Janey , don't panic , you will probably find that someone there can help you . I stay in hotels all the time and the amount of people that plague reception for an answer and thety normally know it off to a tea. A lot of these places even have step by step instructions in the info packs they send.
How old is your laptop if its within the last 3 or 4 years (as you say you have windows 7 then I would be very surprised if it doesn't have built in wi-fi)
you can try here and have a look
Start --> Control Panel --->Network and Internet -->-Network Connections
Is there anything in there that says Wireless Network Connection and possibly "disabled" ?? If you say you can't see it at the bottom of your screen ?? or maybe take a photo of the keyboard and 1 of your screen and upload them onto here via photobucket (we know you know how to do that )

Re: Connecting to WIFI???
I have a Toshiba laptop as well. There is sometimes a blue light in the upper right of the alphabet keys if wifi is on. If it is off it will be orange. If that is the case press the button to turn it blue.
There will be an internet icon on the right side of your menu bar. It looks like two computer screens with a globe on front of them. Click on the icon and it will show you if there are networks to connect to. Click on the one you want and then just follow the directions.
Worst case you could always ask someone for help.
