Another Newbie
Hi everyone,
My name is Tina and I am proud owner of Jessie my 10 week old Staffy.
She is a lovely puppy.... but she is driving me a little insane
I know it is very early days as we have only had her two weeks.... but in that time she has gone from being very tired and gentle to full on nutcase. >
We are trying to train her with firm No's and plenty of Good Girls when she deserves them.... but now when I get up in the morning... she leaps at me... grabs my dressing gown and won't let go and also attacks my legs with her claws.... I am covered in scratches lol
She is developing the habit is snarling at me and barking, with her head lowered.... she bares her teeth and if she can't get my dressing gown... she will grab my slippers... often nipping me in the process. I tell her No firmly and release her teeth off my slipper... but she just lunges at me again.
Is this normal behaviour at this age? Sorry to sound stupid.... but I have not had a puppy before.
We give her lots of attention and playtime... but think rolling around with her playing on the floor may have been too excitable and has made her too sure of herself.
She will listen to my partner most of the time when he says NO... but with me it like she just looks at me and laughts
We are trying to find her a Training School... but have had no luck yet.
I realise a lot of things will improve once we can walk her... but in terms of controlling her.... any tips you can give would really be appreciated.
Please help as I am feeling slightly wary of my puppy so what will it be like when she is fully grown!!!

Re: Another Newbie
hi and welcome...
there will be plenty of people here who can give you advice but start as you mean to continue... Rolling around on the floor and razzing up your pup will not help! Most pups like to nip and bite, but they have to learn they can do it to their toys or chew bones..but not you! They like to see what they can get away with. Once Jessie has had all her needles you will be able to start taking her out and walking and socialising her...all very important things for a staffy !

Hiya and welcome from me and Moo
Keep doing what your doing, behaviour that you don't want a firm no and ignore the pup, turn away even place them in another room for 'time out'. Staffs hate to be ignored.
It will improve when you can take them out but you need to start the learning progress now with basic training.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Very good advice already given in that you turn around and ignore her when she is naughty and lots of praise and cuddles when she is good, Staffy love their cuddles, well mostly.

Re: Another Newbie
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the welcomes
The advice is great and I have already been trying the No command and ignoring Jessie... but it proves very difficult when she is latched onto my dressing gown or slippers lol as she just will not give up
Took my slipper off her this morning and she came up off the floor with it....OMG I can't believe how strong she is already
Really looking forward to when the time is right and we can take Jessie out for a walk... which I know is going to be great fun lol x

Hi and welcome from me and Tilly Be patient as they are a bundle of mischief , the walks will do wonders but you will never get rid of the mischief streak 100% (but I really hope you can get down to the odd sock theft or sneaky fart)

Re: Another Newbie
when the little scally wag is tugging on your dressing gown or chewing on your slippers could you get a rope tug toy or something and try to distract her with it ...and then praise her when she lets go of your things to get the toy. ..she will soon learn what things she can or can't play with!
it is hard work now but it will pay off ... eventually!

Hello and welcome from me & Heston...just be patient & firm and it will get better. Heston came home from the rescue centre and I dont think he could believe his new 'kennel' was so big and full of things to play with, but as soon we had the routine down it got much better I promise!!!
