End of first season - problems?
Sorry mods, I just posted this in another thread but that title isn't very relevant so I thought it'd be better to create a new one.
It's been three weeks since Mia's season started.
She's been bleeding the whole time but something seems a bit odd now, as over the last few days her blood has turned black and today she absolutely stinks. It's a really strong metallic smell, which from Googling might suggest an infection in her rear end.
We've booked her in to the vet this morning but any advice is most welcome

I think it should have turned to a straw like colour by now, but saying that My Mia's stayed quite pinkish blood the whole way through, sorry cant be much more help than that, it doesn't sound normal to me so the vets is your best bet, when she's going? x

Yeah from all we've read we expected it to get lighter at the end, which it started to do but then changed to become darker.
Managed to get an appointment at 10.40 this morning so I'll report back later. I didn't think we'd get in with it being a Saturday.

That's good glad you got in, It seems they always have to have problems on weekends and late at night, never at a convenient time lol
Sure the vet will get her sorted! Let us know x

Most vets would squeeze you in somehow for something like this. It certainly sounds like an infection, which hopefully can be sorted out with anti-bs. However, what will be foremost in the vet's mind, I would think, is pyometra - infection of the womb. If it's pyo, then although it can be treated with anti-bs the vet will normally recommend spaying as there is a greater chance of it happening again, possibly with disastrous results.
Do let us know as soon as you can - we'll be worrying for you!

Re: End of first season - problems?
Just got back. No real worries - the vet thinks it's probably an infection so we've got a course of ABs to get through, then we'll see what's what.
I'm sure you'll also be pleased to know that I think she won over the waiting room. We got the customary cautious response when asked what breed she was, but after everybody saw her immediately flop onto her back for all the other dogs, and being completely unphased by a toothy warning from a beagle type thing that didn't want to play
