Can anyone tell me why a dog walks backs when you try to put a lead on or try to walk forwards and he goes backwards????

Re: dog walk backs
I think he's probably had very negative experiences with the lead and/or walks.
Try clipping the lead on indoors & letting him trail it around for a while - make sure you give him plenty of encouragement & maybe a treat or two. It might take a little while for him to realise that the lead means fun, but he'll get there evntually, you will just need to be very patient.

Re: dog walk backs
Is he walked with a harness or just with the lead attached to the collar ?? A harness maybe something to think about.

Re: dog walk backs
My boy was petrified of the harness at first but after a few months he is now walking nicely on the lead and going out the front door
It takes time but as already suggested we let him drag the lead around and gave him a treat when we wanted to put his collar on ( he still gets the treat but comes to get hi collar on well) I'm afraid you just need to take it slow and steady
