Lily's home.
I picked Lily up from the rescue this afternoon and so far she had been a little star. She travelled home well and when we took her for a little walk later she met another dog off the lead and was fine, she even seen a horse and was OK with that too. She is fast asleep at the moment in her bed (on the floor), although she was really spoiled in the rescue and had a day bed so feel like I'm depriving her I visited her a few times in the rescue before we picked her up and I have not heard her bark yet - is this a staffie trait, she is so quiet - although she snores like a drain but I've heard that this is a staffie trait She also makes little grunting noises so we affectionately call her Lily-pig.
I'm just so pleased with her and if I had one teeny tiny moan it would be that she farts Not sure whether its just nervousness, or perhaps diet - please don't tell me this is a staffy trait.
Whatever her background was I am sure she would have been the most loyal of dogs - their loss, my gain. Welcome to my world little Lily-pig
Just thought I'd share x

Yes, perfectly normal!
The farts (if they're really room clearers) could be normal, due to the food she's on or anxiety. If she's been getting a low quality food, which is likely in a rescue centre cause they have to give what they're given or what they can afford, then it could be playing her stomach up a bit.

Welcome home Lily You sound like a very typical Staff!!
They ado make bizare noises and can be rather windy! Food can help. Give it a bit for her to settle and then you can make some changes if needed.
Pics please Xx

Re: Lily's home.
Oh joy! Thanks everyone - I think I will change her to a more improved diet shortly. I would be grateful if you would like to share your preferences as you all have such beautiful dogs.
I will post some pics as soon as I can work out how to do it Janey

Re: Lily's home.
Give her a week to settle & then gradually change her food over if you need to. If it's anxiety then it'll clear as she starts to settle in.
I can't comment too much on dry food because I feed raw, but I'm told that Fish4dogs, Wainrights & Royal Canin (expensive!) are good.
Try having a look through this...

If you do decide to switch foods do it gradually over a period of days or she will have an upset stomach

Re: Lily's home.
Well done ,looks like Lily fell on her feet with you. She will take a few weeks to get over the initial settling in period, so be consistent and calm. Change her food slowly and get the best quality you can afford, often cheaper to buy off Internet, shop around. Hope she can be walked regularly, as a tired dog is usually a good dog. Not all Staffs bark a lot, but that could change once she is more settled. Lots of Staffies also snore or grunt, again usually normal. It will take a few months for her to settle in fully, our Misty took about 3 months to fully relax. A stair gate may be useful to separate Lily from your grandchildren when they visit. Enjoy:)

Re: Lily's home.
Thanks for even more words of encouragement.
Just gets better and better - first night in the kitchen on her bed - on the floor. Last walk at 10.00, she wouldn't go in the garden when we tried her later and there was no mess at all when I got up at 7.00. Couldn't believe it!!
Thanks for the feeding advice - I have had a look at the link that Caryll sent so see what the prices are. She doesn't seem that overstruck on this food anyway, she has only had a couple of mouthfuls this morning.
Thanks for the advice x

Re: Lily's home.
Glad to hear that things are going well. I'm sure she will settle in OK, sounds like she has anyway.
I remember when we got Rocky from the rescue centre that he didn't bark for a while, he still dosn't bark that often though, I guess only when he needs to.
As for the bottom burps, yes this does seem to be a Staffy trait its something we have all learned to live with, bless their little bums
