Introducing .........
Hi Guys
Please meet the lovely Lily. I did an earlier post about adopting a rescue and have now done it - I pick her up on Monday. I really hope it turns out well, she has a really sweet nature even though she is as mad as a box of frogs. If you're a dog and you have to end up in a rescue centre, you could do no better than end up in Liverpool Dog Rescue. They take wonderful care of the dogs in their care, most of it voluntary.
So I'm off to the shops tomorrow - any tips on what I should get so that I don't buy up the shop!!
I wonder if I could canvas opinion on something - crates. I am thinking of buying one to start off - door left open - and trying very hard not to feel guilty as she has slept on a bed (a real one) for the past several weeks.
Also, if any of you guys have any tips that you can pass on to me for early days settling i would be forever grateful.
Have to get her spayed next month but thats a topic for another time
Many thanks - any advice greatly appreciated.

Re: Introducing .........
Congrats on your new additon
I rescued Moo at 10 months and she has been a joy, never used a crate, she did come to work with me initially so I always had an eye on her lol, but she isn't a chewer.
How old is Lily? Exciting times and I wish you all the best Xx

Re: Introducing .........
Thanks Janey.
Hard to say but they think she is 2.
The resuce said that Lily doesn't chew - she has all sorts of stuffed toys and they were all in one piece. She is very boisterous and jumps up quite a lot. I have a 2 grandsons, 5 &1, and I just thought that if she used the crate as a bed I would have the option of closing the door if she became too boisterous with them. Is this wrong - perhaps I should just use get a normal bed and think about a crate if problems arise. She will hardly be on her own as hubby has retired so perhaps we should just go with the training and see how it goes.

Re: Introducing .........
She looks like a little belter.
Make sure you have plenty of nice treats, you may want to think about buying an extending lead or a training lead to give her that bit extra freedom for the moment and wish you all the very best of luck, sure you won't need it though

Re: Introducing .........
A crate is certainly not a bad thing, I think I'm in the minority here as I haven't used one It will give you piece of mind and certainly a safe haven for Lily to go to when she needs a break from the grandkids, a good idea I'd say Xx
Everything else will come with training and you may find you its not needed

Re: Introducing .........
Thanks Dave, we think so too. Treats are a given, good idea about a training lead, its on the list now.
Janey, thanks again - hope she turns out as good as your little Moo, fingers crossed

Re: Introducing .........
I hope so also, I am so blessed having Moo, she hasn't been a prob (apart from the diareah but thats another story!!)
Take it as it comes but I do think (from the horror stories I've heard) that introducing a crate may be a good idea to start with Xx

Re: Introducing .........
You should pick up some food of whatever she is currently eating. If you are going to switch to something else do it gradually. You will also need toys, food and water bowl, leash, collar or harness.
That should get you started. We use a crate so Suki has a place she feels comfortable in when she doesn't want to be bothered.

Re: Introducing .........
Thank you, that was very useful as the rescue feed the dogs on whatever gets donated which is generally tinned food. I would prefer to give dry but will take your advice. I noticed from this forum that James Wellbeloved seems to be a favourite and I was going to do a bit of research as I obviously want to give her the most suitable for her. I know from the rescue that she doesn't like any biscuit in with her food so changeover may take a bit longer.
