Aggressive Puppy
I am having trouble with my puppy at the dog park when he see's smaller dogs or dogs that are a little bigger then him he gets dominate and sometimes fights and idk how to get him to stop because he submits to me but never does for any other dogs he is a true Alpha male and he is only 3 months old will he grow out of it or is there something I can do to get him to stop??
Re: Aggressive Puppy
awwww really??? that title really is upsetting to read....at 3 months old a puppy really cant be agressive.....
He is playing and needs to u to train him thats all. He is only a little baby and doesnt no what is right or wrong its up 2 u to show him. If he is not playing in the way u would like him to correct him.....

Re: Aggressive Puppy
Contact your local vet for information on puppy socialisation classes and basic obedience. This will enable some socilaising with other pups in a controlled environment and provide your pup with some valuable doggie behaviour lessons.

Re: Aggressive Puppy
the puppy parties as lynne suggested are a fantastic way forward. Are you sure he is being aggressive? whats his body language like? and tbh if it aggression its more likley to be fear than dominance as a dominant dog will strike a pose first and assert there authority with body langauge and he shouldnt be at that stage yet.
Sure it isnt just staffy play your seeing? they play hard, grab necks and legs and barge around like nutters

Re: Aggressive Puppy
As Blaze said, at 3 months old, its not aggression, its just play to them. As advised, do a lot of socializing with him and correct him when he behaves in a way you don't like. But don't worry, he's really not being aggressive, he just needs to be taught how to play and the dogs he plays with will do that.

Re: Aggressive Puppy
Sorry i kind of have to disagree, my cousin got a pup and it was 12weeks and her friend got one form the same litter and they were in together one night and the larger one was snarling and growling and sitting on top of my cousins dog biting at its neck and ear while it was screaming in pain, it even drew blood on its nose. If i had not just seen that i would totally have said at 3 months it can't be aggro, but i believe it can! She even went for us when we went in to separate them.
You need to do LOTS of training with this dog, puppy classes might not give the "right" socialisation as puppies don't generally know much, so i think your dog might benefit from more adult classes as your pup will learn how to fit in with real dogs.
Also you might want to try some light puppy agility, i mean just teaching him to sit stay and go through tunnels, no jumping at his age. It will give you and him something to work towards and keep his mind active so he won't be thinking about dominating everyone.
Good luck!

Re: Aggressive Puppy
Thank you all for your replies. When he plays with other dogs it mainly my friends other little staffy dogs that he gets crazy with he makes that loud nose and starts biting well they all do that when they get together but it looks and sounds like they are fighting and sometimes they get a hold of each other and make each other cry until we stop them... But today at the dog park he started doing that with a Lab puppy that is 3 times his size but its not all the time he does this at the dog park... He is a smart dog he can already sit, stay, shake and lay down at 3 months and at home he plays with me but nothing crazy ill just have to take him to the dog park more then ive been and maybe even keep his leash on him so i can correct him when he plays wrong. Once again thank you for yalls input...

Puppy classes are great and an older well socialized dog for him to interact with will also be very helpfull

Try a long training lead, but honestly it sounds like normal staffy play. They do learn to control the pressure but they have to be taught. They continue to play rough as they get older and sometimes you need to get a little energy out before going to the park for a play. One thing I have done is go for a few mile jog first (mine are older) but you can strat by taking him for a walk before going to play. That way he won't have as much energy to be out of control when he finally gets some doggie wrestling time. It can help along with a long lead so you can help correct him.
