New Member Need Help and Advice :)
Hi guys, I have a gorgeous little girl called Tia, who I rescued at FOUR weeks old, had to hand breed her and everything, shes my life my world my soul. I used to own another Staff Harry, who no matter what, was a right pain in the a**e! But yet we still loved him, and good bless his soul - he did really look after us.
I'm only young, 20, and me and my girl have been living together happily on our own for 4 months now, but I've recently moved back in with my parents, who own a bulldog, everythings fine they get on so well as they already knew each other, BUT Tia is now 6 months old, and the Bruce the bulldog WILL NOT leave her alone, sniffing etc. When will she roughly come into her first season as I've heard I can't get her spaded until she's had her first season. And I'm worried if she does get pregnant, her dying through labour as her Mum did.. Or the size of the puppies killing her. Many thanks in advance

Hiya and welcome
The average age for a bitch to come into season is 6-8 months. Is she licking her bits and are they swollen?
If she is comong into season then yes you will have to wait 3 months after its finished to have her neutered. In the mean time as Steve said, keep them apart at all times!

Re: New Member Need Help and Advice :)
She's not been licking no and theres no swelling at the moment.
The house I've moved into is a really old vintage cottage so everything but the kitchen room dining room and a "dogs room" we've created is downstairs, everything else is upstairs. Its unfair to Bruce (the bulldog) to make him stay upstairs//downstairs vice versa as the stairs are very steep and big, and bulldogs shouldn't really be going up and down stairs as something to do with their shoulders. I also don't want to upset Tias routine as she's finally settled now and getting into her routine of going to the toilet outside, as it kinda got messed up when we moved.

Re: New Member Need Help and Advice :)
it's not hard really just dont leave them in the same room together.
Re: New Member Need Help and Advice :)
Hi and welcome from me, Millie and Bella.
Agree with the advice given. Could you not keep them in separate rooms?

It may be hard but you have too! Have you thought about crate training one or other or both?
If not you have to keep them apart, its only for a month, may feel like a life time but it could be hell of a lot worse!!

Re: New Member Need Help and Advice :)
Tias crate trained, but I do not want a life of her being locked in a room, neither of them at all. It's cruel and not fair after she's had the past 4 months of being allowed space

Re: New Member Need Help and Advice :)
You have to keep them seperated if Tia is coming into season and for the duration of the season.
Crating is not cruel and they do not need to be crated 24/7 but just when you are not around, which includes if you need to go out the room for a minute!
Come on, its not hard to understand, otherwise they may mate!

Re: New Member Need Help and Advice :)
Hi & welcome.
It's essential to do that - no ifs ands or buts.
You have no choice - if you don't change her routine when she's in season you will have a litter of unwanted pups on your hands.
But do you think it would be fair for such a young puppy to have pups herself? Because that's what she is - a puppy. If she is coming into season (and it's likely that she is) then she is far too young to have pups & you would be being cruel to let her. If you leave the dogs together then they will mate.
Whether you like it or not, the decision is somewhat out of your hands, isn't it? You either leave them together & let them mate (cruel as she is far too young and there are too many unwanted pups in rescue centres as it is) or you seperate them either with a crate or in seperate rooms (which you say is cruel). What's it to be?
I know what everyone has said here sounds harsh, and is probably not what you want to hear, but it's very much the truth. Sorry.

Hi and welcome from Rocky and me.
Go with the advice already given, it makes sense to crate one of them during the season.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. I agree with what everyone else has already said. Is there someone who could keep Tia for a month when she is in season or a friend you could both stay with?

Re: New Member Need Help and Advice :)
The only way to stop her getting pregnant is to spay or keep them apart. There unfortunately are no other options.

Hi and welcome from Roxy and me
You have to go with the advice given above, you have to keep them apart. It will be much more cruel to allow your pup to get pregnant so young than to change her routine and crate her.

Hi and welcome from Tyson and me. Sometimes you have to be 'cruel' to be kind. Please please heed the advice already given. It will be tough but the alternative is not a good outcome for anyone least of all your little girl.

Re: New Member Need Help and Advice :)
Hi and welcome from me and Tilly she is a little star. You must go with thw advice given. It is possible to get her done before her first season but its one of them thats down to opinion and the specific Vet, our Vet thinks its the best way (he's German) but nevertheless we waited until Tilly had her 2nd season. As others have said , at 20 yrs old I'm sure you know the birds and bees Spay or separate it is the only guarantee you can have
