Puppy With Kids
I've got a 13 week old pup and a 16 month old son both absolute terrors. Milo's quite good with my wee boy but for the most part they stay out each others way. They'll steal toys off each other, and argue (shouting and barking) but dont seem to be very affectionate towards each other. Well unless you count Milo trying to hump Aidan today when he had his nappy off , my question is will the affection come as they get older? I see all these pics of puppies and kids cuddling up together and that's what i was expecting but it hasnt happened as yet. Anyone else have puppies with babies/toddlers?

Re: Puppy With Kids
They will grow closer as they both get older. At the moment they are both wrapped up in self - totally normal for pups and kids!
My two didn't really get close to my old stafford until they were about 2 - 3 years old, although they both learned to stand by grabbing his scruff & pulling themselves up (poor dog!). By that time Bandit was about 7 years old. I've not actually had a pup with young children.

Lucky you. It can be a nightmare at times but i figured them growing up together is the best way to go about it. With any luck they'll both settle down at the same time and my hair will get a chance to grow back.

Re: Puppy With Kids
Kaos and my youngest now 3 are thick as thieves. summer was 1ish when we got kaos at 12ish weeks, the bond didnt fully develop between them till she was about 2, its lovely to see. As caryll says she learnt to stand and walk with the help of Ty.

Don't bet on it!
They'll band together to make you pull your hair out even more!! My son used to take bottles of ketchup etc out of the cupboard when I wasn't looking, take it into the garden & pour it over the dog! Then they'd come in & just sit there looking innocent!

Re: Puppy With Kids
Not had kids myself but Moo has been around them from 10mnths when I got her, I would correct the pup if he gets posesive over toys, and discourage humping. He needs to learn that it is wrong and its not too early to start this training, its something that they will carry with them

He's not to possesive with his toys (milo), aidan can walk up and say ta and pull them off him (after a bit of a tug of war)

Marty has a baby girl (only a few weeks old) and his staff, Samson, is really gentle with her.

So much fun having a pup and toddler... makes ya feel a bit loopy sometimes, but it is worth it when they get a bit older.

Sometimes when their both sleeping i question my sanity when i decided to get a pup when my wee boy was only 1. Looking forward to the good times ahead and proud that i'll be bringing up a dog savvy kid and a kid savvy dog.

Re: Puppy With Kids
Yes, I agree but I have 3x dogs and 4x kiddos. I can attest to the fact it gets easier.

Re: Puppy With Kids
Doing the same thing with my pup, as he is around a 2 and 6 year old all the time. They are very loving towards eachother... Although the dog some how manages to get toilet paper and no one seems to know why. It can be very cute when they are together but very mischievious. I'm sure it will get better

Re: Puppy With Kids
MY son has a 1 year old and a 3 year old with a bull terrier puppy of 6 months now and so far so good. I imagine they are all a handful but they will settle down as they get older.

Re: Puppy With Kids
My first Staffy Ellie was 3 when my son was born and 5 when my daughter came along. She was the most tolerant dog but when she did bark, the kids knew to leave her alone, only happened 3 times. She was pts last year aged 16 and we all still miss her.
Milo humping your son Aiden is a dominance behaviour and should be discouraged. I also wouldn't let them sqaubble over toys. Remember not to leave Aiden unsupervised with Milo. Milo will mature a lot faster so hopefully ignore a lot of Aiden's behaviour when older, is Milo mouthy?

Re: Puppy With Kids
My twins had just turned 3 when I got Charlie at 8 weeks, they've always been close, same with my 8 year old. Staffies and kids are made for each other

He is a bit mouthy still, its only at selected times, collar on and off, when im down on the floor with him. He's a lot better with aidan he only tries to mouth when aidans got food. Aidan always yelps or squaks when milo tries to take food of him, stops him right in his tracks. And dont worry the humping was nipped in the bud sharpish.

My dog is just over 2 years old my baby is 13 weeks and he's very respectful of her, but your dog is still a puppy so slightly different but as he matures they'll be great together

Re: Puppy With Kids
we have Poppy 10 weeks old and my son is 3 in June.. Jude was a lazy boy and it was hard trying to get him clean..
Poppy comes along and we start praising her when she goes to the toilet in the right place.... My son! now followed suit and has been clean for 5 days lol!!..
Poppy takes his toys and Jude gets them back. They are playing together well but i think to answer your question; their bond for one another will grow and they certainly will become to love each other....

Oops Poppy is our Staffy and Jude is my son btw!
