hi everyone, we have a 13 year old dog that has what we call rumble tums (gurggling) now on a regular basis, where he tends to pull his stomach in if he doesnt eat his food and he is lethergic when in the house but still wants to go for his walks and his toilet movements seem ok. I want to try him on another dry food but can anyone recommend a good one due to his age to make him a happy dog again.

Thanks
Helen worried

Science plan is always a good idea for elders. Take him to the vet just to make sure he hasnt got himself an intolerance, which can make him sound gurrglly...even if he has been fine, he can get an intolerance in elder years. Also check his teeth, if he has good teeth dry food is okay, ut be aware taht as they get older their teeth get weaker and softer food is better. If you think he may struggle eating, moisten his food. If you think its more than that change food.

They can happen in elders, even if they have been fine with the same food for years.

Older tums take more care. so just be aware that harsher foods are less digestable, so NO treats and no high fat/doggy treats. As a treat you should give him unsalted/fattened chicken

Hope this helps Smile

I have copied a list of dry food recommendations below, some manufactuers do food specifically for seniors it may be worth trying one of those for a while to see how it goes. A senior dog will not need as many calories as a younger one and may need some help with joint care.

Hi & welcome to the forum. As above, I'd have a look through the list and see if one of them do a food for senior dogs.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Same advice as Caryll and you could also consult your vet to see if they have a recommendation
