Fish oil supplements for puppies?!
I've read that giving our dogs fish oil supplements is beneficial to them...
~ Does anyone on here do this?
~ Is it safe to give these supplements to a puppy (3.5 months old) or should I wait?
~ Would one-a-day (1/2 dosage for humans) of these supplements be ok? http://www.healthspan.co.uk/omega-3/omega-3-500mg/productdetail-p362-c151.aspx
Any advice would be great!

Re: Fish oil supplements for puppies?!
you dont need to get the suplements that cost a fortune a cheap tin of sardines in oil and give one fish a day. i pay 35p a tin from tesco and there are 3 fish in each tin

Morrisons have just started selling their own brand capsules - 30 capsules for £2.50. I thought that was quite reasonable.

The link I posted is for 500mg capsules (360 of them) for a tenner...that's a years supply at one-a-day for a tenner!!
The recommended dosage for humans is 2 of these a day (1000mg) so do you think one-a-day for Gabbi would be ok or is this still too much, I can't seem to find an answer anywhere but have read giving too much is not good as it affects blood clotting.
Steve? Anyone?

Re: Fish oil supplements for puppies?!
Yes they affect blood clotting, but in those amounts it's not enough to cause trouble. Once every other day is probably sufficient now, but if it's easier to remember every day it's fine too. It won't cause harm and it's not all that expensive either. Once she's fully grown I'd do one every day. I just toss Gummi one more or less every day as a treat, and skip them if they're fed fish (I only give them oily fish). If the information about the ones in your link is complete they look good, no soy listed. Would have a look at the box as well just in case, at least around here it's a bit of a struggle to find capsules without soy/"vitamin E".. Sigh.
Re: Fish oil supplements for puppies?!
Thank you Ane that's the kind of reply I was hoping for
I've ordered the ones in my link and will give her one-a-day with brekkie... she hoovers up her kibble so won't even notice!!
I may take two-a-day myself while I'm at it - how funny I'm quite happy to buy Omega 3 supplements for a dog but have never bothered for myself
