Happy weekent to start -
Have any of your guys taught your staffy tricks..
Lolas a rescue, We've had her about 3 weeks now & so far I think shes a highly intelligant dog - We have taught her to fetch laydown to stand up & walk & also to spin
But we cant get her to roll over.
Has anyone else managed this & do you have any tips

Re: Teaching tricks
Take a look at the link below, little Nico did all his tricks using clicker training, it may work for you

Re: Teaching tricks
we got Lottie to roll over. play with the dog and when she's on her back get a treat and make her followit over and say roll over while your doing it. then when the dog is standing tell the down and then roll over making her again follow the treat. Lottie got it 2nd go

Re: Teaching tricks
Never taught Tyson tricks. Kathy our trainer showed me a few pointers at class on Saturday so I will try starting with paw and a spin. Just been too busy with his other stuff.

Re: Teaching tricks
I have taught Tia quite a few tricks:
roll over
"bang" play dead
up on hind legs
bow
close the door
paw
speak
heel to your side
She seems to really enjoy doing them but I could never get the hang of the whole clicker thing lol.

Re: Teaching tricks
Moo knows all the basics but I have never mastered roll over with her, tried everything, even doing it myself (got some funny looks doing that one)! Still she doesn't get it!
They really are quite intelligent, as long as selective deafness doesn't set in

Lola knows the basics... Sit, stay, down, bed, heel (she doesnt always listen though!)
She also knows 'show me your tummy' our version of roll over,

Re: Teaching tricks
Skye knows over, paw, high 5,high 10, speak, shout, crawl, also the basics sit down stay wait come( well most of the time)
Buster is getting sit paw speak down high 5 wait but he can't seem to master roll over yet but he's slowly learning
With my gsds my girl could do lots of tricks even opening doors with handles ( back doors) but my boy would look at me as if to say just give me the treat and refuse to do anything apart from paw ( he knew the tricks just didn't want to do them cleaver really lol)

Re: Teaching tricks
hehe!! I might try the rolling over to - My OH has been 'helping' her roll over but its still not clicking what she needs to do.
She does love tricks though is the most I see her tail wag when you get that little box out!
Think I might try my luck with the play dead too... ATM im trying to teach her the conga but getting her to stand behind me and walk. Not working so far lol she looks at me like im stupid !

Re: Teaching tricks
Taz has a few tricks up her sleeve, but to teach her to roll over - I said 'roll over' whenever she did this naturally when lying on her back, it didn't take long before she associated the command with the action
