New Owner - Need Diet Advice
Hi Guys
I've taken ownership of a male 18 month old Red SBT called Duke from a deceased friend, I've known Duke since he was a few months old so we get on reallyy well, and as i'm a 1st time owner i need advice on dietry requirement for him.
Since i've been taking him for his regular walks now, i've been comparing him to other SBT's on their walks and Duke seems to be thinner than those his size and his ribs seem more visible in comparison and i've noticed that quite a few times, so i'm sure i'm not paranoid! And one last point of concern is a small bald patch on his forehead the size of a twenty pence, is this normal? Other than that he's a great dog who's been well trained.
I would greatly appreciate advice on what and how much to be feeding him and any info about the bald patch.
Thanks
Jack

Re: New Owner - Need Diet Advice
Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
How much you need to feed will depend on a few things:
What type of food he eats.
His weight at the moment.
How much exercise he gets.
You can use the guideline amount of food which is printed on the packaging, bear in mind it is only a guide.
Not sure about the bald patch, have you registered with a vet?

Hi and welcome to the forum
As said already, it depends on what you feed him and how much exercise he gets.
It's all trial and error at first. What suits one dog won't suit other dogs. Make sure you choose a good quality food, follow the guidelines at first and then make your own judgement when he's been on it for a little while and you can see the difference. If he's podgy, cut back. If he still isn't gaining, perhaps he could do with a little more.
Remember that all the treats he gets counts too, especially if he regularly gets things like sausage as a treat, or eats your leftovers.
Congrats on becoming a new staffy owner, have fun with him, and we're here at anytime for a chat/advice.
